WRT the thread title (sorry, couldn't be @rsed reading through all 7 pages) the answer IMHO is "absolutely".

Shouldn't the first one be "no" too? Or did any of those players play in the senior team during the recent decade-and-a-half long Australian dominance period?

Allan Mullaly was in the squad and he certainly aided the decade and half of dominance

So everytime he sooks he is basically joking?horace wrote:SG wrote:The way he sooked about him being valued at lower price in IPL, fat chance of this happening,
Over the next days Ponting would do well to tear up his contract with the Indian Premier League and book some time at his favourite Sydney golf club. The last thing Ponting needs is more cricket.
The contract fee of $400,000 he would have to surrender would be worth it for the peace of mind he cannot get at the moment.
...he actually made jokes about it...
I got to know something I didn't know before.

SG
The newspapers put a sooking spin on the comments ....if you saw Ponting when he made the comments they were said in a joking mood ...Unfortunately for Punter he has such a seemingly short fuse the negative spin is what is believed ...Of course the joking mood could have been a facade but it didn't appear that way

I recall Punter also joking and saying that his low biding must be a result of his ongoing piss form...
Not exactly a sook like saying - "Boo Hoo....Looky Roy getting the moolah, Boo Hoo, I can't be below names like Karthik, Akhter, D Hussey, UMB, Tiwary, Uthappa, White, Morkel, Raina....FFS, but how many farking tests have these jokers played?."
I don't really think he has had a sook about the low bidding price yet. Dissapointment surely, and thats natural of course.

Re: So is the gap between Aus and the rest finally narrowing?
Since the first match of the tour (the first test) finished the two sides have appeared fairly evenly matched with India looking slightly the better team overall.
The replacements for McGrath, Warne, Langer (and now Gilchrist) are not in the same class so i imagine we can expect closer contests in future.
Although this will be generally good for world cricket i hope the evening out does't happen purely because Aussie standards drop. There has been a shortage of exceptional talent coming forward this millenium - how many of the players that will probably be called great have started their test careers since Jan 1, 2000?

If India can get their fielding skills up to scratch, there'll be no stopping them.

It's possible that MEK Hussey will be considered great, once the dust settles.
But don't quote me.

Aye. But then again the late 80s and 90s turned up some truly exceptional players by the great game's high standards. Lara, SRT, Ponting (?), Warne, McGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Wasim and *cough* Chuck, is a really hard stable to follow.apres dix ans wrote:There has been a shortage of exceptional talent coming forward this millenium - how many of the players that will probably be called great have started their test careers since Jan 1, 2000?

Not something I've said Pinky. Gump certainly fills the "tie-up-one-end-and-winkle-a-few-out-with-cutters" role but he ain't no Pidge.

He's better than that, skully. 68 wickets @ 21 in 15 matches. Considering he didn't take any wickets in Adelaide he still took 14 @ 28 against the "best batting line up ever in world cricket".

14 @ 28? And here I was predicting he'd end up as the top wicket taker for Australia before the series began.

Re: So is the gap between Aus and the rest finally narrowing?
Even though their test careers started recently, Hussey and Clark would hardly be counted as products of the 3rd millenium.
Pietersen maybe and there are any number of hopefuls such as Pathan, Smith, Bravo and Clarke but we're still waiting for the next Wasim, Lara or Warne (Flintoff nearly got there i suppose, damned ankle).
