Worcs have a "friendly" against the Bears on Tuesday - we play them six times this season so it won't hurt to get them used to losing!

Have the MCC named their side yet?
Usually a shadow England XI (and a couple of charity cases) - a good indicator of where the selectors' heads are at*

As it is every year...

Answering my own question, the only mention I've found of the MCC's side is that Flintoff is "pencilled in" to play, fitness permitting.

They're probably waiting to hear Peter Moores' words of wisdom. That'll be Michael yardy for skipper then!

Re: County season 2008
Not looking forward to it.
Essex are going to be the new Direbyshire - weakest squad we've assembled for years....
Thank god i'm no longer a member - the thought of paying to watch the likes of Jason Gallian & David Masters strut their stuff does my head in!

Re: County season 2008
Is Alex Tudor still at Essex, JKL? If he's fit, he could take some wickets. As far as the batting is concerned, Bopara will be available for most of the season, and he'll be keen to push for a spot in England's winter tour squad, and Varun Chopra has been working hard in the off season playing grade cricket in Australia. Grant Flower should average around 40, same with Gallian. It aint all bad for you guys.

Yeah he's still here but nothing like the bowler he was. We'll probably be battling it out with Glamorgan for the wooden spoon...

Yorkshire have already bagged our first bit of bling for the season.
Be prepared for the the year of the Yorkies.
Link. It's not a very flash bit of bling to say it's from the Emirates.

Pft... not what we need in county cricket IMO
one over the hill nearing retirement and the other your average 75mph bobbins county player.
Not good.

Re: County season 2008
I can't see Notts doing well at all. Most of the bowling attack will be on England duty, and the backup bowlers are either crocked or rubbish. As soon as we lost Sidebottom last season we looked distinctly average (in Div Two). Our best batsman's in Timbuctoo to be replaced by the Aussies 50th choice batsman, so that's not looking good either. There's been talk of Kolpakers coming in, but none have materialised thus far. I can see another relegation coming along, making us the proverbial yo-yo team.

Re: County season 2008
Division 2 in the championship looks more competitive than last year. I would only rule out Derbyshire and Glamorgan, because that's the natural order of things.
Worcs. will win a one day pot - just don't ask me which one though.

Re: County season 2008
Without our champion Kolpaks Andrew Hall and Johan Thunderfart have been c*nted by the ECB. So we're so f*cked we've got Jahin Louw back. Don't mind the 2004 vintage, not sure about the 2008 variety. We'll see I suppose. We need a lot of spinning tracks and we'll be a shoe-in.

Just back from freezing my nads off at New Road. Jonah jogged through his run and bowled at no more than fast-medium. can't blame him really, the conditions weren't fit for any sort of meaningful game, but both captains wanted to play.
Oh yes, and Worcs. were being well and truly farked over byThe Bears!
