Will Beer (or Will Sussex), teenage leg-spinner, bagged match figures of 8/99 for England under 19s against NZ U19.
Went at less than 2 runs per over all match, too. Which suggests good control.
Worth keeping an eye out for? Never seen him play, personally...

Re: English county season 2008 (V)
He has been run out a few times in Sussex first team games. Leading to the scorebook entry of : Beer Run Out
Glos's new signing Ian Saxelby also doing well. Saw him the other week He has a bit of pace about him.

Is he related to the Notts Saxelbys of the 80s/early 90s?PearlJ wrote:Glos's new signing Ian Saxelby also doing well. Saw him the other week He has a bit of pace about him.
(Edit: Answered my own question, he is the nephew of both Kevin and the late Mark Saxelby who played for Notts in that era.)

Yeah, way back in 2000 in fact. Weedkiller poisoning which was suspected suicide. Another of those who obviously couldn't cope with life after a cricket career - there have been a fair few examples.JKLever wrote:Mark Saxelby passed away?

5 South African born players in this Leicestershire side, and the most successful one in international terms is Boeta Dippenaar... says it all really!
I'm all for having top quality overseas players in county cricket but so much of the Kolpak crap cluttering up the second division adds nothing to the competition. Let's hope the possible change in the rules has an effect.

Aye, they seem such a soul-less side too... at least Nhants K'pkers seem to enjoy being at the club.

Leics. "nicked" James Taylor from us in the closed season. Although a Leicester boy - he had been in our academy. He played against us in the first game of the season, but has since disappeared without trace - so they're not much cop at bringing on young talent either. And is that Tom Smith on loan from Lancs. I see?
Anyway, with a new ruling on Kolpaks likely - Leics. must be crapping themselves.

I've always rated Beer.
Apparently his natural fizz means he bowls well in the first innings but can go a little flat if left out in the sun too long as he match goes on.
Sorry.

Jebus, White and Sales never seem out of attack mode. Run-a-ball 50 and 30-odd, then get out. Making Derbs look summat. Which they ent. IMO, 179/3 is poopoo.

And that's as far as he got.
Surrey won the toss and on a warm, breezy, overcast day at Headingley elected to bat first, oops!
114-5.

Yeah, was more impressed with Wessels. He's been shitish all year, thought he'd get his trademark 6 runs.
Zulu's God. Averages about 62 for us after 40-odd matches.

Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Thanks to a last wicket Saqlain/Collins slogfest Surrey recovered from 167-9 to 204 ao.
It's not all doom and gloom for Surrey, an interesting fact mentioned by the commentary team, is that, this season, Yorkshires last wicket partnership averages more than the opening partnership. So the odds on us surviving the last 16 overs without losing a wicket appear slim.
