Carberry is on the verge of getting a place in the England squad, along with Tremlett is he doesn't snap again.
Warne's decided he has better things to do with his precious time, likewise Bruce.
In Bond and Watson we have two of the most injury prone cricketers in the world as our overseas signings.
Pothas might not be allowed to play what with his involvement with ICL.

How could things get any worse?

That's the pessimist's view.

I don't think Carberry or Tremlett will see much if any international action this summer for various reasons - Carberry because he's not exactly the next cab off the rank and Tremlett because there are serious doubts about his fitness.

So look at the best case scenario: An attack of Tremlett, Bond, Mascarenhas, Ervine and young Liam Dawson won't be the worst bowling unit around. Billy Taylor and James Tomlison are quite serviceable seamers too.

Batting looks weak as piss, though.

They're not going to win the title, but I don't think they'll be relegated either.

I am a pessimist, it's true. But Tremlett and Bond aside, who as you say are both fitness concerns, there's no class in the bowling. Ervine's gash, Taylor and Tomlinson are steady at best and Liam Dawson hasn't really impressed me so far. He's certainly no Warne.

Any runs we get will pretty much be down to Creepy, so he'd better have a good season. I did have high hopes for Benham last year, but he didn't really do anything noteworthy in any form of the game. Hopefully he can push on a bit this season.

But who in county cricket has two Test-quality opening bowlers? Sussex win the title every year without any seamers worthy of the name. Frankly, without Mushy I doubt they'd even take ten wickets per match, let alone twenty.

Lancashire are the only side with real strength in depth to their bowling.

Everyone else is much of a muchness. Don't see Hampshire's bowling as being any weaker than anyone else's - and their new-ball pairing should be one of the best around.

It's the batting where they could struggle this season, unless someone like Jimmy Adams, Micheal Lumb or Chris Benham really step up. Kevin Latouf used to be a good bat for the England under 19s - wonder if he's on track to contribute something to the seniors.

Poor old Kyle Hogg's broken his finger and is set to miss the first month of the season.

Will he ever get his "promising career" started?

Fred's set to play Lancashire's first match in 2 weeks. Good stuff.

And Andre Nel's going back to Essex for the first month of the season to cover Kaneria, who's going back to Pakistan for a month to spend time with his family.

Can't wait till the start of the season.

Some random will make a hundred and be touted as the next big thing. Usually by Mudge.

Always happens...

Derbyshire have signed Dominic Telo, whoever that is, and are closing in on Langeveldt. Not the worst signing in the world but hardly worth having a party about.

About Dominic Telo from cricinfo:

A prolific scorer of runs as a schoolboy, considered by some to be as good as Jacques Kallis at the same age, Dominic Telo broke into the Western Province side as a 19-year-old but it was in 2007-08 that he really found his touch with three hundreds. That attracted the attention of Derbyshire and he signed a two-year deal with them at the start of the 2008 summer, expressing a desire to qualify for England.

Interesting. Averaged 59 in the last South African domestic season as well.

That's a shame. Telo is one of South Africa's brighest black cricketing talents. I saw him bat a couple of years ago, and I had him down as a dead set certainty to play for the Proteas one day. I guess it goes to show that it's not just the white players who are getting frustrated with the quota's.

So who have they lost recently- Rudolph, Vaughan Van Jaarsveld, Dominic Telo, Ryan Mclaren..... These are all young guys who were on the fringe of national selection. Shame.

Isn't that just the standard spiel for anyone signing on a Kolpak? "Av elwez filt Inglesh throw end throw and kent wet ti represaint the Quinn end kentree..."
