Wouldn't go that far FFS, but certainly not of the standard of Pak 1992-96, WI 1994-2000 or Aus 1994-2005

He wont' be able to. Thorpe was one of the best bats of his era and certainly the best English bat. If he came out of retirement he'd probably still be our second best bat. ()
It's still one of my biggest gripes that he couldn't have played in the 2005 Ashes. He deserved it more than anybody but was pushed out of English cricket.
His back was fooked by 2005 though, not sure he'd have made it through the whole series...

Graham Thorpe - ave performer against most teams.
Bullshizzle.
Played most of his career against the better attacks of the 1990's
v Aus - average nearly 46
v Pak - average 51
v WI - average 42
Average my arse....
vs wi - 65 -
dont see how thorpe is better
Yes, a whole 2 tests against the WI...
The averages for Thorpe were against the best attacks of his era...
who were the best in flower's era besides these and aus?

That's what they said. They said his back was wrecked and his eyes had gone. He denied both when he was interviewed. I would have taken his word for it.

The Indian bowling attack in India was as good as any in the 90s, and better than most. That he averages over 100 against us (how many have in the 90s?), goes a long way to show his quality. And his averages across the board are pretty similar to Thorpe.

Personally, I'm not saying either was better. I was saying that Thorpe deserves more respect than some are giving him.

Yet he couldn't make it into the nSW side later that year coz his back was gone . . .

Sa without doubt...
He had 5 games against them and cashed in on the roadiest of all roads in Harare in 1 test with 342 runs for once out when SA racked up 600-3dec!
Apart from that game he didn't pass 67 and averaged 28 in the other games.
As i've said before, his average against Pak is more indicative of his ability IMO

The ICC ratings did have Flower on top at one stage, IIRC.
I don't think Thorpe ever got close ...
Make of that what you will.

Righto. So you're saying:
'Andy Flower is good against spin bowling. He was brought up on dusty, quite benign tracks in Zimbabwe. Therefore, because he didn't fare too well in conditions conducive to fast bowling, but us Englishmen are the opposite, he's a better player.'
Personally, I think that's a load of bollocks. Some are better than others at playing a certain type of bowling. That's the end of the story.
Thorpe was certainly very even in all conditions.

Once again, not against the best attacks.
As for the Indian attacks he faced..
in the first 2 of 5 tests only he played in India he faced Venkatapathy Raju, Manoj Prabahkar, Rajesh Chauhan & Ravi Shastri
In the test where he made 183* he faced Srinath,Agarkar,Ganguly as first change bowler and Sunil Joshi
Pardon my french but Bollocks were those attacks as good as anything in the 1990's !!!

Yeah, that kid is such a f*ckin one-eye it's totally unbelievable. I feel a little sorry for him.
It's hardly Bish, Ambie, Walsh et al. on some of the worst pitches I've seen with my own eyes.

That comment borders on the farcical now.
Anyway, how the hell did Andy Flower (good as he was) ever attain such "greatness" to have unleashed a half dozen pages and numerous stats in oder to deny the ludicrous claim in the first place from TO !!
Amazing!
