Re: Will Saffies do what the Aussies couldn't ??
Well from what i've heard, Tiwary and Pujara are class all over as well, but unlike Rohit, they've got excellent first class records to back it up. Without a doubt, Rohit is a great talent, but so was Suresh Raina when he first came onto the ODI scene, and without much of a first class record, he was annointed as India's next great batting hope, but he then started to struggle under the weight of expectation ,and because Dravid and Chappell shunted him up and down the batting order.

I haven't given up on RP. He's a fine young bowler. He's just woefully short of rhythmn and confidence at the moment.

What about Balaji, or is he still injured?

I haven't seen or heard of Balaji for about 3 years. I think he's dead....

Jaffer needs to go. And Dravid looks the first of the 4 to make the exit. But not this year.

They need to stagger the retirements so that the younger players can blend with the older and Sachin can mentor the likes of Kaif.
I think the BCCI is paying for its belligerence when Greg Chappell tried to infuse some young blood into the squad. Funny how the only major championship they've won in a couple of decades came without the stalwarts.

ive never really seen or heard of pujara since the u19 wc. but what ive seen of rohit tells me he should be playing test cricket asap. its not just the technique or his shots, more so the temperament. and i notice you didnt have yuvraj in your line up, cmon thats a bit knee jerk isnt it? hes not the first nor will be the last young batsman to have a poor first series in australia.

Right I spooked Manjrekar to say what I wanted, makes sense. What is this rubbish about saving face ? You think moving on and acknowledging something where credit is due is saving face. Thankfully I don't take sport personally, it is a passtime for me that is all.Ash wrote:Josh Carney wrote:Indeed why let facts get in the way of some fantasy theories.
Perhaps a simple explanation such that I might have been away and not had time for forumming during the tests. Incredibly no reference to the posts on the ODI matches including the finals where Tendulkar's efforts were heartily lauded. Threads are still there if anybody cares. It is remarkably funny that "one" or "two" or "three" or "four" take the siege mentality, look for conspiracies and get judgemental instead of facing up to realities.
you had to do that to save face since irrc you started a thread slating him
in fact here it is, manjrekar fell for the trap too:

Ditto, also he needs to work out how to bowl in India against visiting teams.Henry wrote:I haven't given up on RP. He's a fine young bowler. He's just woefully short of rhythmn and confidence at the moment.

Not convinced about Dhoni's test credentials yet. His test keeping is average and seems to struggle with his bat against good teams, although he as all the makeup required for a good tough nononsense Captain.Henry wrote:Possible Indian team post Kanpur-

Tendulkar could be out for a while and get even more physically exposed by the IPL tamasha.
M. Tiwary - A little bit of what I saw him in the one game against OZ did not give me a lot of confidence about his technique even taking into consideration that he was jet lagged.
Kaif has a chance to be the next Dravid. Classy Rohit need to get a look in, perhaps the replacement for Tendulkar. Have not seen much of Pujara so cannot comment.
Chawla will be an absolute star IMO. Badrinath - good candidate, unfortunately age may be against him.
Yuvraj - No need to talk about him again.

Manoj Tiwary? He's the one who loves Kevin Pietersen, isn't he? Poor sod. Kevin Pietersen's got enough love for one person - from himself.
There seem to be a lot of Indian batsman who average 50+ in FC Cricket, and they're not even talked about. Like Yashpal Singh. I'd never heard of him either until about a month ago. Who is he? Is he any good?
4287 runs at 56 strikes me as impressive.

Good player, but for his whole career he's played for an unfashionable domestic team (Services) which has meant that he's never really been considered. It's admirable that he's remained loyal to his team, but he probably will never be picked for India.

Re: Will Saffies do what the Aussies couldn't ??
Yashpal Singh was talked about as a player on the fringes when I was new on C4. Probably a bit old now. And out of the selectors' radar.
As for Tiwary, yeah he really likes KP, even pulls up his sleeves up to his shoulders when batting, like KP. The jury's out on him, had one great season, and two OK seasons both side of that one. This year can partly be put down to him playing in a team whose quality had come down rapidly.
The great thing about Tiwary is, he knows how to pace him innings, plays according to the situation his team is in. And can play big ones.

On Tiwary I hope he suceeds and what we saw off him in the one match against OZ was an abberation. He is a terrific fielder and has a great attitude.

Re: Will Saffies do what the Aussies couldn't ??
i dont think indian FC cricket is the best judge for future international success. thats why selectors are so important. sharma is one of the best young bats in india, but you wouldnt guess that from just stats. many international players were relative failures in domestic cricket (vaughan, clarke, etc) but picked consistently in front of domestic bullies because the selectors knew class when they saw it
have seen tiwary only once in domestic cricket (the finals) and he looked impressive then. his debut was one of the most timid ones i have seen though. hopefully he gets a consistent run to prove himself

Yeah mental toughness makes a big difference as the competing level increases. Hence the situation of the match comes into question while assesing the performance instead of just the stats.

Although Tendulkar has a poor record against the Saffies I don't think he is faking anything. Never known him to back off from a challenge. He is just ageing fast and also unfit.

Very harsh to accuse one of the greatest batsmen (And gentlemen) to ever play the game of faking an injury in order to dodge a decent bowling attack.

Pffffffffffttttttt. He did it because he was an uber-arrogant selfish sook who thought he was 'big balls crew' for captain and fell to the floor crying like a spanked child when Mike Denness was made captain.
Get a clue, you tranny.
