He's not paid to entertain the crowd, for gawds sake.MACCA wrote:Merlin wrote:
Now I've heard the lot!!
Bowden is nothing but an eccentric little fool who plays entirely to the cameras and his audience.
The crowd love his antics and he is not the first "Dickie" Bird was in the same ilk.
Bird was in a different class ... had his quirks yes, but he was held in high esteem by the players who
regarded him with respect when on-field.
Bowden's just a clown who happens to be an adequate umpire.

I think bowden is a very good Umpire ..but with all the technology available it highlights all the umpires mistakes ...we then pick on the umpires "quirks" as excuses for them being "ordinary" ...ie Dazza's man management and Billy's signalling ...as an excuse to hate them more

Perhaps my claiming Bowden as being 'adequate' was a tad harsh .. I'd agree he is a good umpire overall ... it's just that
there are quirks and then there's Bowden - who seems to embellish his quirks inorder to achieve a clownish level.
I agree with you (and did state earlier on this thread) that technology does highlight umpires howlers ...
However, hate is a strong word, unless one happens to be an Indian supporter speaking about poor old Bucknor!!
