He bowls these full tosses and short shite every now and again, but when most batsman are caught in the deep anyway, those two deliveries are as effective as a googly or flipper can be in real cricket.
I think I was born a generation to early, a bit like Martin Peters I was 15 years ahead of my time...
I've been slipping in these variation balls - full tosses and long hops all my career and never get any reward. Just ungrateful league batsmen who don't realise how good they are and slog them for 4.
Next time I drag one down and get tonked over midwicket i'm gonna eyeball the batsman and say "Aye, it was wasted on thee, son...."
Well, Schofield has an enviable knack of taking wickets with really, really bad balls. Maybe you need to change your trajectory, or maybe being incredibly ugly and thus detracting the batsman from the flight of the ball contributes heavily.
Cut your face up a bit, draw a bastard mole on your cheek and dye your hair and I bet you those full tosses and long hops suddenly have the same air of mystery as a Murali doosra.

Is that the theory behind the Murali boggle?
It is actually quite distracting facing a really ugly bowler. I can remember playing once against this red-faced chap with disjointed features that looked a little like one of those identikit photographs you see on Crimewatch who puffed in 20 yards to bowl, arms and legs flailing everywhere before getting into the crease, doing a huge windmill and then bowling off the wrong foot. I was so distracted I barely remembered to play a shot and the ball crashed straight into my front pad, plumb lbw.

No, you'll never see a leg-spinner chuck it. It works against the action you're trying to put on the ball and would be totally counter-productive.

Schofield: If Terry Jenner was dead he'd be spinning in his grave, as it is he's proabably just shaking is head in disgust.

Yup, I was a fast chucker and I switched to bowling wrist spin after being advised by a few old club players I new. I stopped playing before I got to try out my non-spinning long hops and half volleys against unsuspecting batsmen.

The next Question. Does Murali Throw? A Bit Tougher this one, so think before you answer.
(This is not what it looks like, I am not Comparing a World Class Player to Muralitharan) I promise.

Re: Chris Schofield
A lot of 'vintage' threads seem to be being revived today, especially by Lardy. What's the plan?
Oh, and Schofield... still a knob.

Re: Chris Schofield
I was half-expecting this revival to announce Schoey had been released by Surrey.
And two Lanky leggies to be axed within days of each other.
Maybe The Red Rose "powers (?) that be" should just have done with it and offer Warney a miilion-quid contract he can't refuse ...
