Yeah, probs. And you know what, it wont assuage my view that he is undeniably the most talented batsman not to get even a sniff with England or 'the third most talented player I've played with, behind Flintoff and KP. He's unbelievable.'

Clearly doesn't have the hunger though . . . well, I say that, but actually it looks like it's too much hunger.
A bloke of that size is always going to have his commitment questioned . . . having seen him in the flesh a few weeks ago he ain't getting any slimmer either, he's bloody huuuuuuge - makes Gatt in his pomp look svelt.
That's what's called in the trade "complete bullshit", as Charles has mentioned his batting and fielding don't suffer and I don't reckon this is 'huuuuge':

I'm not saying it's the be all and end all, but pudgy cricketers cruising in their comfort zone don't tend to demand selection for an international side already carrying its fair share of free-loaders.
Talent-wise, Sales is one of the best around. But I think if he's really serious about having a red hot go at getting into the England side, he needs to get in shape. Bobby Key once asked Alec Stewart what he had to do to get into the England side, and Stewie didn't sugar-coat it: "Get fit."
But he doesn't suffer in the fitness tests either! It's just people casting their aspersions. Gough had a similar bodytype to Sales.

It's the most recent photo of him, electronically, that I could find.

I personally think being rake thin in cricket is over-rated. Tendulkar's podgier than Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman ever will be, but he's fitter than them and easily one of the better fielders.

Sales is a fatty - factamundo. He's bleeding massive. He's the fattest professional cricketer I've seen since Ian Austin.
To compare him to Gough is ridiculous.
We all know he's capable of getting big scores, but on the basis of the profilic nature of some of his best knocks you've got to ask yourself why he still only has an FC career average of under 42.
Suggests that something goes badly wrong somewhere along the line.
Too puffed out following the big knocks to follow them up perhaps?

Seen either in the flesh recently, JKL?
The Blobster actually just has a chubby face - he's really not all that fat.
Sales, however . . . out and out porker.

Have you seen Jimmy Ormond lately? It's like he's eaten Jumbo Sales. And washed it down with a Samit Patel smoothy.
Re: English county season 2008 (II)
I must protest at this outbreak of rampant fattism.
If the boy can do the job, let him be a bullock, me old gran always said.
Meanwhile ...... Lanky go in ever decreasing circles down the tubes.
Getting hammered by Derby in any form of the game is a calling card for the pearl-handled revolver.

And wasn't just a loss - it was a ton off in 50 overs. Direr than diarrhoea in Derby.
And getting carted by a flame-haired Antipodean castoff doesnt' make it any better.
I think I will switch my allegiance to Man U, like everyone else.

People who say a bloke has no hunger because he's a big lad so must be unfit, and therefore can't play international cricket, talk so much turd sometimes Bob.
The bloke scores big runs, double and trible 100's - it doesn't affect him then, his fielding is pretty decent. So what if he's a big lad. Rather that, than some skinny runt who keeps getting a nice 30, but contribute f'all in the grand scheme of things!
Being overweight suggests that his attitude to being the absolute best he can possibly be, to do whatever hard yards are necessary to squeeze even an extra one percent out of his talent, is sorely lacking.

This is the whole point though isn't it Jay. He IS match fit. He has a shedload of talent. His batting and fielding do not suffer. Since his knee, his fitness record is pretty good.
And say he does get 'fit', in what is regarded the normal way of being fit, by shedding a few pounds, chances are his batting will go down the drain, as his technique and muscular memory are all geared up for the size he is!
Is it not concievable maybe he knows that he performs best the way he is, and therefore is being the best he can be for his performances on the pith, and not in the gym!

Bob, I'm glad you're back posting here - but you're talking shit... he's nowhere near the fattest...FFS Rob Key's bigger for starters!!!!
Yeah, something did go wrong with him - seasons of shite after getting injured. I CGAF 'why?' some shit - facts: He's averaged 50 for the last 5 years, that's all you need to know. I expect you're jealous because he's a better cricketer than Notts have produced for many, many a year - but you are good at poaching talent...

Nor is David Sales - as can be seen on the last or last but one page!!!!!
That's what gets me.... there's physical evidence that he isn't and some jealous type ignores it completely.

Saqlain - 21 wickets at 19 so far in early season conditions. At just 31 years of age, is he going to be another Mushy, where he should clearly be in the Pak side instead of Kaneria but is left to perform brilliantly in CC for years?

Nice. Maybe he should come and make a pretty 50 versus club bowling, then shit it when the actual bowlers get on the park... a la Pakistan 2006.
