Kolpaks are just bad, mm'kay:
- Code:
Bowling O M R W Econ
J Louw 7 4 6 0 0.85
DS Lucas 4 0 23 0 5.75
DH Wigley 4 0 26 0 6.50
Re: English county season 2008 (II)
Wigley and Lucas shouldn't be playing county cricket full stop...

Too right. I would much rather watch Hall, VDW, Zulu and Boje play than Lucas and Wigley.

Surely that's the gag, Lever. We're poor. They just got new contracts on the back of being cheap. The argument is that Kolpaks ruin CC. This isn't the case, obviously, when you take Northants as an example. An attack of Klusener, Boje, Van Der Wath, Louw and Hall is nearing Test standard. If they came in as the last 5 batsmen:
7. Klusener
8. Boje
9. Hall
10. VDW
11. Louw
then you'd probably say that's by far the best tail in Test cricket.
How young players from opposition sides can't benefit from the experience of batting/bowling against them then I just don't know what they're doing with their budding careers.
Re: English county season 2008 (II)
Agree - but don't you see my point that if all counties adopted that stance the only players getting experience would be fellow Kolpakers?
Although of course in 18 counties you should be producing enough English cricketers anyway

Actually I see your reasoning - drossy county cricketer never will bes who consistently do nothing yet get county contract after county contract piss me off as much as the lurpackers do.
Take Mark Footitt at Notts. WTF is he still languishing in 2nd team cricket, when you have those dross weasels playing CC?

Mark Footitt isn't languishing in 2nd team cricket though. He'd probably be in or around the Notts. side, especially during internationals, if it weren't for him languishing on the treatment table. You'll have to pluck some better names out of the air than that to prove your opinion to anybody.

It would Lever, but I'd say every single County can afford better Anglos than Leics and N'Hants. It would never be that way. I'd all well and good to be concerned for the English game, but it isn't that realistic that the other 16 counties will adopt the same unracist policy.
Furthermore, as you say - 18 * 6 First Team English regulars = 108 - they're likely to be the better ones because they've beaten the competition. They'll play a higher standard of opposition. Aus have only 66 innit.

Re: English county season 2008 (II)
I seem to remember Ambrose doing this last season as well. I think he got a massive doubly hundred not out early on in the season and then did practically nothing for the rest of the year so his average slowly fell until he ended up with an average of around 40. That double was his only century last season, I think.

I know he's also been injured lately but he played a shitload of 2nd team games between 2006-07. Promising youngsters should be in FC cricket rather than county journeyman IMO
