Emburey doesn't qualify for Australia.

If this is his last test he needs 5 wickets to equal Merv on the Australian wickettakers list.

Have to check with Mick Sawyer first. Ideally, as MacGill's last living fan, he's the man to tap him on the shoulder.

Right.

How does a left arm wrist spinner become the next right arms finger spinner?

He doesn't - he becomes the next useful lower order bat who isn't particularly any good?

Having said that, it is obvious that Casson isn't Test class but unfotunately he may be the best of a seriously carp bunch.

He should never have been chosen for this series. Whether it's due to injury or straight-out loss of fitness, he bowled nothing but utter tripe v Sri Lanka, and then came back after his injury with more of the same, ie nothing to suggest he was ever going to be back to even his 2000-2002 form.

If you have Pup, Roy and Fleas in the team, do you need a specialist spinner against the poms who, as we all know, are utter dross against the turning ball . . .

In truth averaging 40 in FC cricket hardly makes him a stand out does it?

We're only dross against the mystery spinner in fairness. I'd love the Aussies to test that theory out!!

Sage. Casson is going to be marginally better than those guys at best. We'd be better off with 4 frontline quicks and share the spinning duties. There's no point picking a spinner for the sake of it. With Midge and Subi we have two bowlers more than capable of being the workhorses while the real strike weapons in Bung and Bubbles have a rest Smile

Meh, had a good season and deserved a go. Plenty of room to improve.

At this stage of his career, it's acceptable. Now if he has a FC and Test career which ENDS with that average, you'd be entitled to call him the poor man's Giles or Carl Hooper of spin.
