Charlie, I am well aware of the bloody exchange rate, but still doesn't explain why players of equal ability should be paid differently.

Doesn't happen in the EPL with the exception of Lampard. Whatever he is paid, it is too much.

It's big pay to a Saffie... happens in most countries that you're players are disproportionally more expensive, usually due to some sort of sanctions.

It's immensely different. Football players command transfer fees... in essence part of a cricketer's wages is a transfer fee.

A lot of county players work in the off season for the county club in some capacity.

At least - a fair few used to at Essex.

Because if a Kolpaker wants a job, the county cannot afford to pay them the same as say a capped English FCC, because they also get canned with a penalty for playing them.

So in order to even it out, the counties have to pay a Kolpaker less. Add to that the fact that £30K goes a fair way for 6 months work or whatever in SA, and I bet its a darn site more than a Provincial contract, they are happy to take it I suppose!

Saffies get paid less because they know they're lucky to be here at all. Pretty simple.

Bat sponsors can be about 5-10k a year for a decent Pro!

You then have expenses on top of that, as well as all meals paid for etc...

So basically for 8 months they have no outgoings really, that a nnormal working person would have!

Its £1100 a game I think. So over a season of 18 games or whatever, there's £20k.

Sponsorship has been pared down over the years.
A top pro can expect a car, bats, kit, travel and a slice of the County sponsors package.

The journeyman cricketer much much less than that - kit and maybe some travel expenses, perhaps, if he's lucky,
a local businessman to pick up some of the costs.

Most of the loyal county boys wait patiently for their benefit years.
Shah's this year at Middlesex ought to bring him a decent 6 figure income, tax free.

Average salary is £18,000. That's taking into account the London mark-up. Some shitheap county like Derbyshire - they're probably on £12,000 on average. So, someone like a decent English player, Lungley or someone would be on about 4-5 times the wage.
