At minnow bashing and scoring runs when the pressure was off, certainly.HH_pink wrote:Because SRT >>..>> BCL.

You mean because BCL did that? I mean, score huge tons in dull draws (the only non-dull aspect of those matches being his batting)? Yes.

It grieves me to say it because I think he's a self-serving, greedy, son-of-a-bitch but it has to be BCL.

BCL had it tougher than AB and for longer.
He performed just as magnificently.
He strode to the wicket early to start his innings, he was always at the other end of a collapse, and normally got out at the end slogging as he was running out of partners.

No, SRT did it far more often and BCL played many more meaningful innings that got his team out of tight situations.HH_pink wrote:You mean because BCL did that? I mean, score huge tons in dull draws (the only non-dull aspect of those matches being his batting)? Yes.

At least Wisden recognised that SRT never played any great knocks.

Phurt - AB declared on himself in the 90s in chasing a win. BCL let himself get to 400* when a win was in the offing.

I think Lara, Hussey, Sangakkara, and even Shiv are better left hand bats than Border was.

What does that mean? FFS we have a complete glossary and still people are coming up with new abbreviations.

No doubt that BCL was incredibly selfish, however, how many times did he get himself out slogging? Numerous times.
At the end of an innings how often did you see AB or SRW farming the strike or going for quick runs?

Wind Up Merchant? No. Border was a fine player but he bullied some piss poor England attacks, yet averaged less than 40 against the Windies.

Deceiving stat, that one about <40 against the Windies.
I think JGK showed me stats of AB during the 80s averaging a more respectable 45 when they were at their peak.
