You could pick a great team out of that lot.
In addition Gallian, Mullally & White played England after being Australian U19 reps.
You could also pick:
Maher
Valetta
Gallian
S Lee
Cosgrove
Trimble
Haddin
Zesers
Hauritz
Robertson
Cook

That's an awesome team. Shane Lee alone makes it top quality.

He is supposedly better than Shaun ...He just set a record for Runs scored in a season in the Darlot Cup (Schools Comp) ...Other players to have played Darlot include Langer , Katich , Moody , Hogg , G & S Marsh

Maybe all the money in cricket at the moment will convince him to stay at WA.

Aye. But I doubt many of them tore up the U-19 stage. Most of them came through when they started to play FC cricket.
Of course they tore up the U-19 stage. They made the national team! Check out the links I put up an hour ago to the Aust U19 Test & ODI batting records & you will see that many of them performed very well at international youth level. If you change the word "batting" in the URL to "bowling" you can also check their bowling records as well.
WideWally wrote:Maybe not greats but a lot of good cricketers. Have a look at the list of former Australia Under 19 reps.
Aust U19 Test players
Aust U19 ODI players
IMO Australian selectors have always shown a preference for cricketers who have previously gone through the National Under 19 setup.

Ok, what I meant to say was that not many of them were picked for Australia on their U-19 exploits. Like happens in India or Pakistan.

Veletta's innings in the semi and the final of the 87 Gilly should exclude him from that list

They don't get picked immediately but you can bet they were closely monitored by the selectors & seem to get preference when there are players with similar FC performances contesting a spot.

Phil Hughes for Australia in the near future then!

I doubt if they will be selecting him for tests in the near future (maybe ODIs). Usually, they like to give a batsman a few seasons of FC cricket to see if the opposition bowlers can find any weaknesses & if they do, whether the player can overcome them.

I suppose. Reckon he should get a go in the ODIs quite soon though. Maybe against NZ.

Re: Ponting, Waugh, Taylor - last 12 ODI innings
Phil Hughes should NEVER play JAMODIs before he plays tests. If he is the natural test opener than everyone says, there's no point stuffing that up by getting to go outside his natural game.
It is something England seem to be doing with Al Cook.

Good point. I still don't think playing ODIs would be bad for him.
