Chappell vs Border vs Taylor vs Waugh vs Ponting.
I'd be interested to know how people rank these five outstanding Aussie players in terms of captaincy and batting.
For me, batting-wise:
Chappell
Ponting
Waugh
Border
Taylor
It's difficult to split Waugh and Border.
In terms of captaincy, I'm not so sure. Some Australians could probably do that list a lot better.

I would have Ponting as the best captain and batsmen. But I know for a fact no-one would agree with me.

Well yes, it was. Mainly because you'd have to nuttier than a macademia to rank Ian Chappell top of the batting list, ahead of Ponting et al.

Why mention captaincy then?

Those look like Leo's lists to me. He loves Border like a son should love his dad.
I remember OP often touting Ponting as the BABSB (Best Australian batsman since Bradman) on C4 so he'd disagree with the first.

What?
I want to know, in the opinion of the forum, which of those 5 players was the best bat and which of those 5 players was the best captain. S'not that difficult to understand dude!

Just think a lot of them appreciate not only his immense batting in a team of shit but also his hardline captaincy, in a team of shit.

Jebus Chrisates JKL! He's picked the same 5 bats who were captains, Chappelli was a better captain, but he's not trying for that, he's trying for those specific 5.

I'd put Chappellg bottom of the captaincy for the obvious, underarm shite. Richie rinsed him at the end.

Even allowing for the under-arm incident - Greg was a fairly ordinary captain. Ian, however, was different class (as a skipper)

So I hear Baz, haven't been able to quantify as I've only seen highlights, albeit half hour a day, of Chappelli and his captaincy.

I saw most of the 1977 series - and he suffered in comparison with Brearley, but then most captains did. He spent most of that series walking around with a world-weary resigned expression.
