Re: I see Smith has
No runs count anymore. No wickets, either. Stats mean nothing these days. If someone gets runs, it's because the bowling is shite, if someone takes wickets, it's because the batting is shite. No one shows skill or determination. All of their success is the fault of the opposition.
The fact is, cricket has been so poor since 2001, it's barely worth talking about.
No one these days will ever be better than any half decent player who played before the year 2001. FACT. All this talk of coaching being better, cricketers being fitter and stronger, speed guns being around to expel some myths (How ridiculous is it to suggest that Curtly Ambrose bowled no faster than 85mph?! He clearly bowled at 104mph consistently)- It's all just rubbish. In the 90's, you had to bowl at 95mph into a stiff gale with 3 sweaters on before you were even considered for national selection.
Boundaries, pitches, bowlers, and patience levels are shorter, bats are bigger and lighter, the ball is no longer made out of leather, but a super bouncy rubber material that means the slightest edge carries for six. All the best bowlers are now playing AFL, football or basketball, and pitches are made out of smooth concrete. You have to average 70 these days to be considered on a par with a batsman who averaged 30 in 1993. Bowlers have to average 15 to be considered as good as the likes of Heath Davis, Martin McCague, Eddo Brandes, Alan Mulally, Kenny Benjamin, Jo Angel, Pramodya Wickeramasinghe, and Venkatesh Prasad- These guys were top class, lethal bowlers in the 1990's. Batsmen had to work their butts off to even average 20 against this lot, such was their skill.

Then this, from the first post in the other thread must have been a formatting error:Lara Lara Laughs wrote:JGK - I didn't say KP's the best, I was just asking the question after reading that article.
Although you could - I suppose - argue that 'most complete' and 'best' aren't the same thing.

To be fair to the stoopid chick, I think that "most complete" stuff was the sub-heading from the article.

There are times, believe it or not Nads, when there are better things to do than be arsed leafing through reams of threads!
Nevertheless, in recognition of JGK's initial joke, I tender him my sincere apologies for possibly ruining the punchline second time round.
