Re: Gooch & Hoggard on Pattinson
FFS, he was born in England. He's more English than Pietersen.
Maybe it's the fact he's shit and is now playing Tests is the problem...

Seriously, Pattinson was, at best, the sixth-choice seamer in our team last season.
This sums it up why I'm pissed.
2 weeks ago this bloke was a roof tiler from Aus who wasn't first choice in his state by a long shot - took advantage of his passport to blag some games for Notts and then proceeds to have a good 5-6 championship matches on the greenest most swingiest pitch in the land at Trent Bridge and suddenly he's got a test for us. Fark orf indeed...
Can't identify with the bloke at all.

5 or 6 is not 1 or 2 JK. The same opportunities existed for other bowlers in those matches. To me that reads like good form.

That's why we're all a bit miffed that when Pattinson averaged almost double what Simon Jones did he still got picked ahead of him.
Re: Gooch & Hoggard on Pattinson
Nobody else got the chance to play at Trent Bridge.
Hoggard, SiJones & Harmison have all performed as well and are fit.
Maybe I just don't want to see some random Aussie play in my side instead of someone who has given their all for the cause over the past 6-7 years...

The way I've read it is that want Jones to remain injury free for a while longer & they plug the gap with someone they don't give a rat's about but who might bowl well at Headingley.

Aye, was going to check how Pattinson did head-to-head against Hoggard and Bresnan when Yorks played against Notts. Checked the scorecard and, surprise surprise, he wasn't even good enough to get into the Notts team for that game!
Seems that Mark Ealham was selected instead!
Re: Gooch & Hoggard on Pattinson
I think the whole is he a genuine Englishman/flag of convenience thing really is all about his personal motivations which apart from a quote here and there we don't really know. Ok he might consider himself Australian but you'd think his English parents and passport would give him some sort of attachment to the motherland.
We're an inclusive, immigrant rich society so the country of birth and upbringing isn't the be all and end all but if you're going to represent our country at the highest level of sport you need to buy into being British 100%. You need to be proud to be British and you need to be planning to spend a good deal of the rest of your life here. That's my criteria. If he plays a few seasons of CC and the odd test match and then sods off back to Victoria it'll be hard to have much sympathy for him.

A Harmison selection would be madness. Hoggy just hasn't delivered over the last quite a while. Jones?

Andre Adams played a couple of those games - averaged 18 with the ball. And we all know he's Test standard!
Re: Gooch & Hoggard on Pattinson
All 3 bowlers have performed in FC cricket this year.
Harmison agreed - I'd still rather he was out there tbh.
Hoggard had 1 bad test in 7 years - rough treatment if you ask me.
Jones, Simon - taken 29 FC wickets @ 13.27 !

Re: Gooch & Hoggard on Pattinson
It's wrong in so many ways.
I don't think allegiance is quantifiable, but the whole story of him only being over here for a bit of cricket is telling.
And no matter what anyone is saying, I wouldn't be championing anyone of 'proper' English nationality who'd played 11 FC matches against proven performers who shouldn't necessarily be out of the side anyway.
Take Tremlett even, the only thing he did wrong was bowl a spate of innocuous bouncers!!! He still took his wickets relatively cheap on dead 'uns and didn't get collared!
It's tantamount to the Bopara over Shah selection, but magnified immeasureably.
Ro Shambo, suck my nuts.

Aye, if he felt so English I think he'd have spent more than two months of his adult life over here!
I mean even the average Australian bums around Earl's Court for at least 2 years...
Re: Gooch & Hoggard on Pattinson
What happened to Pattinson's eyes?
Where are they?
Is he related to Phil Tufnell?

Jason Gallian born in Manly Australian Young Cricketers Captain ?
Alan Mullally ...born in Southend ...raised in Oz ...FC debut in Oz...retired in Oz
Martin McCague ...raised in Oz ...FC debut in Oz
The poms have had no problem in the past picking Pom/Ozzies ...If Pattinson is playing CC as a Pom then he should available to play for England ...
So the only questions that remain are ....(1) his ability ...Joe Dawes springs to mind ...and (2) other possibilities (a risk to include Flintoff and Jones back together) ( The need for a swing bowler ruling out Harmlessone and Trembler) (Pigsy must be regarded as past it) and any others are basically just as untried as Pattinson

And they're all a bit rubbish. I reckon out of all our Aussie imports in modern times Craig White was the best and he wasn't exactly amazing. Obviously we shouldn't be importing cheap Australian imitations of cricketers.

All those had played for a bit in English cricket before getting picked.
They didn't rock up for a 2 month holiday and then suddenly find themselves in the test side...

Pattinson is right up there in the Joey Benjamin pantheon of duff selections. If I were Hoggy, I would sign up for the first IPL or ICl side to show any interest and tell Geoff Miller to swivel.

Trouble is (for Hoggy), he's far from being a bang-bang specialist.

Sadly for Hoggy 20/20 isn't quite his game. Even with the vast sums of money floating around the IPL i imagine he still wouldn't be worth much more than a tenner.
Hopefully the selectors won't be too stubborn to acknowledge their mistake here and (unless the course of this game changes dramatically) some of the big guns - Hoggard, Harmison & Jones should be in contention to replace Pattinson and Broad for the 3rd Test, along with the returning Sidebottom.
Re: Gooch & Hoggard on Pattinson
If Broad goes, then Ambrose definitely has to be replaced - probably by Prior - otherwise, a six, seven, eight of Ambrose, Flintoff and Hoggard/Tremlett/Jones/Harmison is too awful a prospect to countenance.
Thinking about it - that probably guarantees Broad's continued selection.

No, no, no, no, no!
Anything but that twat coming back into the side.
I'll give up for good, seek Moores out and punch him on the nose if it happens.
