Tri Nations Rugby
The Wallabies have consolidated under their new coach with a good win (16 to 9 - 2 tries to zip) over the world champion japies.
How good are the ELVs?
How ****** short sighted & insular are the Poms and the Irish by backing out of their committment to trial them?
How much great sport can there be in one weekend?

1. They're OK. Still a lot of grey areas though IMO.
2. Not at all. Old rules work very well in the NH.
3. Sometimes I cannot believe how much good sport there is on.

WTF would anyone know if they haven't been tried? The last three games of the RWC2007 are all included in worst six games of rugby I've seen in my life.

So? The Heineken Cup provides plenty of entertainment.

So?
So? The world was watching mate. The rugby equivalent of 1.5 runs per over Test cricket.

And WTF does that have to do with the rule changes in the NH?

Was a brutal game but Aust totally deserved the win. All the Saffie points were through fairly soft penalties.
I am convinced that the ELV's are the way to go. Wasn't sure about them to start but having been able to compare both systems over the last couple of weeks, the ELV's simply make for a better game.

From what I have seen the refs still do not enforce them properly. There are so many grey areas.

Re: Tri Nations Rugby
This year I've had the pleasure of watching games plaed at local club level under the old laws, while the district rep matches in NSW have been under the ELVs.
The reduction in the number of possible infringements at the breakdown has made the game easier to understand and violations generally easier to spot. The reduction in the number of infractions punishable by penalties is a great innovation.
Lineouts are now, for mine, much more tactical, and seeing South Africa go into a couple of lione outs with only three men, against 7 Kiwis last week and 6 Aussies last night, and still win some of them was entertaining.
And making all non-involved players stand 5m back from the scrum opens up the game much more, especially if you've got a strong scrum and win the ball.
Last night's Test was a bloody fantastic game and openend up much more because of the new rules.
That the ELVs were devised at the request of the IRB several years ago by a panel of Rod Macqueen (Aus), Pierre Villepreux (Fra), Richie Dixon (Sco) and Ian McIntosh (SAf), so for the English conspiracy theorists to say it's all a plot by Australia is just so much hat.
And isn't it ironic that the country that unleashed t20 on the cricketing world has produced rugby administrators who think anything different is the work of satanists.

Having trouble following you PJ. It's about how much entertainment/enjoyment that can be derived from watching/playing the game.

Agreed, Australia held the upper hand in most aspects though the japies were almost in for tries twice, which on another day would have meant the game went to them.

I really can't get over these retards from the NH that are resisting the changes. It better opens the game up to players of all body types which is a fundamental tenet of the game and yet they don't stop you from playing a one dimensional game if that's what suits that team.

[anti-woof] So, is Robbie Deans the New Messiah? [/anti-woof]
If nothing else, he's certainly reduced the number of handling errors. That makes him a genius in my book.

By reducing the number of preset plays that involves 5 or 6 of them getting their timing right & instead being more tolerant of a footballer's instincts the propensity to screw up the ball handling is reduced radically.

Honey, he could be sacrificing virgins to the devil as far as I'm concerned, as long as it keeps working.

I'm surprised the Kiwis would waste virgin sheep though.

Hey, they're a bit weird, but they aren't perverts. You know the saying: If she's not good enough for her family, she's not good enough for us.

By the way, is there a bigger qunt in world sport than BAkies Botha. What a coward. That cheap shot to Mortlock's head was disgraceful but he will obviously get off without even a slap on the wrist.

Especially when I produce the stats which showed the Aussies were dirtier in the RWC and your defence was everyone knows the saffies are dirtier.
Personally I think the AB's are the worst of the lot.
