Nice timing.
I'd certainly have him in there before that waste of space, Barmy Harmy.

Strange really that SiJo is being heralded as rapid, when in fact he was bar Hoggy the slowest of our quicks in the Ashes attack.
Generally hasn't ever really hit 90mph regularly, just occasionally. What he does have however is the ability to take wickets when the ball is like a potato, something that our current lot do not seem to possess.
If fit he's a better option that Harmi, purely for that reason alone!

Aye.
Jones at his best was 85/6 swinging it late either way.

Jones was genuinely quick before his first big injury. In his big 2005 season he never really got up to 90mph.
Harmi, Flintoff, Mahmood, Onions and Plunkett are all quicker. What Jones does/did is/was get the old ball to reverse.

Maybe i'm going crazy, but i'm getting a feeling of deja vu reading this thread. Didn't a similar discussion develop about 2 months ago? And someone said that they'd rather Jones was in there than Harmi?
Weird.

Yes, and I wouldn't have picked him then after a couple of first class games...

Re: Simon Jones - 'Come and get me'
Since 2005 Jones rep has gone thru the roof
it' worth remembering he has never managed to complete an entire series, with a bowl average below 30, apart from against Bang
if he stays out of the team for another few yrs, he will hit all time great status, playing cricket for ENG could be the worst thing he could do for his reputation

He's always been dangerous when playing for England. Always beats the bat, finds movement on flat pitches, gets in the batsmen's faces....
The botom line is that he is class. But yes, he is an injury waiting to happen. Doesn't mean he isn't class when he plays.

I thought he was holed up in a cabin with a shotgun, two pistols and half the ECB at first.

So we should ignore the fact he's got 15+ wickets v Aus & SA in a series just because he's liable to break down?
When he plays he's class.

When televised this season, he's been getting it down at anything up to 90/91 m.p.h. Perhaps this is the first time in his career when he's been truly fit.

Fletch always told Fletch to make his quick ball his variety. So he bowled it intermittently instead of winging it down at full-pace. He was always capable of 90 mph, he simply didn't utilise his pace recklessly. Nowadays, with his upper body bulk, I think he might be bowling a bit faster. Off a shorter run up too by the look of things?

I think his run-up is much the same as it ever was.

Must be my imagination then, or maybe it's his fat arse that makes everything else look smaller.

Re: Simon Jones - 'Come and get me'
I'd go with Augustus, I think he's ambling in far more slowly now than back in 2005.
See around about 30 seconds in here.
Can't find any footage from this season, the best I can do is this really ropey phone video from last year, and I reckon it's even more of an amble now.

He's still not racing in there though by any means...
There's a video of him taking a couple of wickets on the Worcs CCC website front page
http://www.wccc.co.uk/
Difficult to tell.
The Ambling run up and powerful delivery is how he was bowling in his first test match in 2002

Re: Simon Jones - 'Come and get me'
Sure.
He never has raced in, but he's certainly more fluent and attacking the crease more aggressively than I recall from this season.
Could be my mind playing tricks on me, but I'm thinking of that excellent spell where he was on a hat-trick (was it against Hants?) earlier in the season.
That's the only time I've had a good look at him bowling this season.

He's Awesome and Welsh. He's got alot more guts and balls than most of the English bowling attack.
Better than that sooking geordie.

Re: Simon Jones - 'Come and get me'
What's the basis of the blogger's (Kriscricket) view that Jimmy may be dropped to make way for Jones? Is there talk of adding a 6th batsman? Surely Pattinson goes and Jones comes in.

Nah - Sidebottom has been England's most consistent bowler for the last year.
He's certain to start if fit - which he will be by all accounts.
