And will probaly sign for Worcestershire by the end of the week. Not sure what I think to be honest. If Jonah gets his form and fitness back - he'll be back in the England set-up: if he doesn't he'll probably retire - either way, we might not see much of him.

Unfortunately I just cant imagine him playing for an extended period of time. There's almost a sense of inevitability that he will get injured again.

I'm sure Worcs will have him on appearance related pay the same way Essex did with Alex Tudor

Nope, he'll be on the same sort of contract as all the other players according to Mark Newton.

Next season will be make or break for Simon Jones. I hope he gets a few injury free months, for all the effort he's put in since his England debut (both on and off the field) I think he deserves that.

A change of scenery may do him good.

Would be a bonus if he's not running in like a scared bloke everytime he bowls by mid season

How marketable are cricket players? Can counties make much money out of their star players?

Simon Jones is certainly a high profile player and in a team without many famous faces, only really Graeme Hick (and he's more famous for not being as good as he should have been), so maybe Jones might help Worcs this way?

Quite possibly, Matthew Maynard hinted that money was not the only consideration.

His signing may well give a boost to the membership, which will obviously help the finances.

Where are they getting the money from? Listening to Chairman Martyn Price droning on all summer I was under the impression Worcester didn't have a pot to pee in.

Is it the first instance of a county signing a player just to be a poster boy?

Were Glamorgan paying Simon Jones for all that time he was out? If so, they must be pretty annoyed.

I think they were weren't they. He hasn't had a central contract for all this time has he?

I believe he has had a central contract for all this time. Perhaps not the last 12 months.

I could look it up. I'm not going to.

The budget for players is more or less ring-fenced as I understand it, as it comes out of the county's allocation of funds from the ECB.

We are still £450k or more in the red, which Mark Newton thinks can be recovered in a couple of years. Expect a high profile marketing campaign headed up by Tom Graveney and Ian Botham

Good do. Did HRH The Duke of Gloucester and Lady Thatcher offer anything more than sympathy. Or were they just there for the tea and biscuits?

Mainly about money. Jones asked for 100k and Glam could never afford that sort of money with the huge debt they are in. Worcester obviously put up a better offer. Also i think Jones may have been a bit hurt by a ot of the Glam fans saying 'let him go, he's done nothing for us'...because a lot of people have said that.
