Not really, I don't live in Mansfield (within the official boundaries anyway). I just don't think it's the worst place I've ever seen, though having lived in Germany and Northern Ireland maybe that's through experience. I've personally seen places down south that are equally grim, one of which is Farnborough. Most parts of London are downright awful too, full of empty council houses, concrete metropolises and foreigners speaking a pidgin of numerous languages. The whole country's grim apart from farmer country. Mansfield isn't really North though and I certainly wouldn't say I have a hard life.

It's great round our way.
Leafy 'burb, good people, good pubs, good restaurants, open spaces, and the beautiful south-notts/north-leics countryside on our doorstep.
I live 3 minutes walk from West Bridgford town centre and we never hear a thing from dusk til dawn even with the windows open during summer.
Someone had parked across our drive when I got home from work last Friday, and I realised it was the first time in years that I'd had the slightest reason to get wound up by anything in our locale.
Good times.

You haven't really travelled much outside industrial cities then it seems...
I wouldn't really recommend any large city in this country tbh - Bath,Cambridge,Oxford are much better. This countrys beauty is in its towns and villages too.

Haven't said any different. London is a loathsome place. Awful. Many parts of Ire/Nire are the same IMO. I just chuckled at tolerable Mansfield. One of the worst on my travels.
'Nice' places like Cambridge and Oxford aren't actually nice. They're 25% nice, 75% slack-jawed shitheaps.

Agreed about the towns/villages thing Lever, people rinse Northampton but our villages are as picturesque as you can want.

Do you watch Look North in Mansfield, Gus? If you do, you're northern. If you watch Midlands Today, you're not.

Most of us lucky enough to be able to to some stunning scenery and beautiful villages quite easily. You can find slums anywhere in the world not just in this country.

There aren't any slums in this country anyway. Not in the strictest sense of the word.

What's the village you pass through just before Corby travelling south on the A6003 from the direction of Oakham and Uppingham?
Rockingham is it? Just ridiculously picture postcard quaint.
Absolutely gorgeous.

I'd always wanted to live in Rye, but I fear it would be a bit 'Royston Vasey'

You wouldn't want to live at the bottom of that hill, and have to walk home over those cobbles after a sneaky few at the pub!!!

Aye, Rockingham's out that way - a real peach. Makes Corby all the shitter. Lovely castle there, friend's wedding last year, beautiful. Got some wild flower garden there that's worth a razzle.
