I just think orthodox spin doesn't offer you much wicket taking potential on decent pitches and you can always throw the ball to a legger with the opposition 120-0 to make something happen.

Cally on the live commentary says it was 5, so 5 it is. Damn you Crapinfo!
After a glorious on-drive for four Vaughan's in all sorts of trouble against Sami. Dropped in the slips and an edge in successive balls.

Just personal preference, i've no problem with Swanny playing ahead of him either to be fair.

Wash your mouth out immediately! I was a very worried man a couple of weeks ago but the points we get from our two games at Scarborough should be enough to keep us in the division.
Btw, 'Cally' got it wrong, Rashid got 4 wickets. Collymore was run out, initially it was thought Lyth had taken a catch close in but the ball hit him and bounced back onto the stumps while Collymore was out of his ground.
Sincere apologies to Cricinfo.

TBH, I'd prefer an experienced, already canny bowler who keeps it tight. Seeing as we already have 4 strike bowlers in Broad, Anderson, Harmison and Flintoff.
Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Aye, though were obviously not going to get a pitch that suits seam/swing bowling everywhere we play.

True. But still, I'd definitely lob the ball to the bloke who's been the best OD spinner in England for the last 6 years, with the best econ, useful S/R and paralleled list 'A' and ODI stats. Personally, I think it's criminal that a) they're playing a batsman instead of him and b) that batsman is coming in at number 7 or 8.

I was being my grim Yorkie best. Don't count your chickens and all that.....
Still got another game to go at Scarborough too, be it against the Yokels.

Well, we can both agree on that.
Seems like he either needs to get himself down to Sussex or go see Gilo about a move to the bears...

Gilo doesn't 'see people'. He sees them. The mouth is on the other cock.

I don't really know what Swann did wrong actually????

Well, yeah. He's come in time and again batting the situation and done OK.
Not sure what he's done wrong. Can't remember the last England ODI spinner to average mid-20s.

Think their paths never crossed, same seasons they changed teams. May have f*cked him off in the England dressing room.

Vaughan gone for diddly squat again.
Talk on the radio of him playing overseas during the winter...

Will Smith in the runs again. He's the best county batsman I've seen all season. Grace, timing, methodology. Looks a fine, fine player nowadays. He showed promise whilst opening at Nottinghamshire then vanished back up north. Really wish he'd stayed, even though we've got a decent number 3 in Mark Wagh (another perpetual under-achiever).

Strange one, been impressed this season when he's been on TV
Career average of 29, averaging 44 before the latest innings this season. Not stand out stats particularly....

****** off with your averages - you're either class or you ain't . He'll average at least 49 after this innings and has only now started to play regular FC Cricket in a set position.

Hence my 'looked good' on TV
Wasn't he opening for Notts in a previous incarnation? I particularly like his pull in front of square off the back foot to spinners.

Yeah, he's been playing on some really shit decks. 44's pretty good, taking all into account.

Needs to be more aggressive though, imo. Strike rate of 45 this season.

On rubbish pitchs with a crumbly batting line-up.

I concur. I think Trev's jealous that he didn't get to give him a special mention first...
