Re: The Olympics Thread
Skully . . . do you remember whne the Chinese runner broke the 10,000 m record by approximately the time it takes to run 1 lap . . . it happened in China, and everyone is pretty sure they simply miscounted the laps, FFS!

Hmm....
Bit like rowing which China couldn't do for shit 4 years ago...
Now they're expected to dominate the chick rowing.
Aye - it's all a bit East German.

Re: The Olympics Thread
I remember them lowering the world record in all the distance races and then one of their runners got caught at the Asian Games (I think) and their long distance program disappeared off the face of the earth. A bit like their swimming program after the infamous World Championships in Perth in 1998.tac wrote:Skully . . . do you remember whne the Chinese runner broke the 10,000 m record by approximately the time it takes to run 1 lap . . . it happened in China, and everyone is pretty sure they simply miscounted the laps, FFS!
I guess if they are clean, well played, and if they are not, and don't get caught, well played again.
Spiv channel 7 showed a clip from an American network coverage which showed the US leading the medal count from China by 29 medals to 27 (US 10 Gold, China 17 Gold - which is now 20). PMSL at the stoopid Septics.

Wonder what that Yank network will do now. The current medal count:

When was the last time that the US didn't win the medal count (Not counting the 1980 boycott of Moscow)?

The irony is they do it to raise their image in the eyes of the rest of the world. And just like the East Germans - it does exactly the opposite. Just how seriously can you take the medal count of the East Germans at previous olympics now?
The Chinese will say Western 'jealousy' in just the same way as the germans did. But we knew whist it was happening they were drugged to hell and we were proved right afterwards.

To answer my own question, it wasn't that long ago.skully wrote:When was the last time that the US didn't win the medal count (Not counting the 1980 boycott of Moscow)?
The Unified team topped the count at Barcelona in 1992 and Soviet Union topped it in Soeul in 1988.

But wasn't the cry on this forum yesterday (PearlieJ, I believe)
that the so called Olympic "drug problem" is not widespread - and cannot be proven?
Can you blame people for being cynical when W/R's are being smashed by vast percentage
points and by unknowns in events whom previously they couldn't spell let alone participate in ?
I read also that swimming records are being smashed by lumps!
This being due mainly to newly designed swim suits. Cute !!
Approve the Drunks carbon fibre bat I say - I want to see the Oval sixes land in Westminster Abbey!!

I'm hoping they win one bronze so I can say what do an Egyptian Judo master and NZ have in common - one bronze medal. They will never let us forget the LA Olympics and the Carl Lewis joke.
