Re: The Olympics Thread
has all of Phelps' six gold medals in this meet been WR times.
If so, it may well be a record unbroken for a long long time. Particularly if he makes it eight golds and eight WRs.

FFS the Aussie swimmers have choked at these Olymplics (Rice aside). While everyone else is setting records and PBs, the Aussies have plodded when it matters.
We've left 3 golds on the table now. We should get one more with the chicks medley but can't see Trickett, Sullivan or Hackett in the right form to win the events that they are the WR holders in.

If he gets the 100m butterly gold and WR - that will be his biggest achievement in the whole games.

Can't blame the guy - he's swum around 20 races, let alone warmup, cool downs and press conferences. He must be rooted.

Re: The Olympics Thread
even though the 100 metre free in swimming and the 100 metre spint in athletics are the golden events of all games, there is no doubt the the real race is the 200 metres. The true legends of the sport should be winning these events IMO.
Michael Johnson and Ian Thorpe are examples.

Re: The Olympics Thread
WTF our people bothered swimming WRs in the heats and semis is beyond me. It obviously rooted them for the finals. Bad coaching, buck fever? I don't know, but all I do know is that if that French 100m swimmer could've done his WR shit in the 4x100 to deny Phelps his 8 I would've run a French flag up outside the house after his victory over Sullivan in the 100 flat.

Britain 'smashes the world record' in the cycling team sprint apparently. The final is at about 11.45 BST.
Ben Ainslie now guaranteed a sailing Silver and red hot favourite for the Gold.
With the rowing finals to come over the weekend, the next 24-48 hours should see GB surging up that medal table.

Seems our lasses are also guaranteed a silver in the bizarrely named Yngling sailing, and again ought to end up with the Gold.

Is that from the Chuck Berry song?
"I want to play with your Yng-a-ling"
Might make for a bracing sailing technique

I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that we'll have at least 9 Golds by the close of competition on Sunday.

That track event we're not even favourites for - the French are the top team!

Yeah GO Yngling!!!
Although only guaranteed Bronze and Gold isn't a gimmie because they're only 1 point ahead. Strangely, they haven't won a race yet and the 2nd placed team have won 3 - how does that work out!?
