Brett Lee is only 2 wickets away from McDermott. ZOMG!
Especially as Ntini's average is 6 runs more than Imran Khan's.

So, his strike rate per test isn't far off.
Lee is a better bowler.

Ntini's the worst bowler to reach 350 wickets. Bet two-thirds of them were in Saffer-land too. Probably the least terrifying of the successful quicks in the modern generation.

Lee is a better bowler now. He didn't used to be.
Ntini is a fine bowler. Maybe he should retire now though, to save his legacy.

Does Ramprakash bat better than Ntini bowls?
I amazed there hasn't been a thread devoted to this topic.

Re: Ntini only 4 wickets behind Imran Khan
Ntini is ok but is essentially one-dimensional and lacks variety. I think he needs lots of pace and bounce in the pitches to be successful. Bowled poorly in this last series but did well on the pacy Oval pitch. I wouldn't have him in an all-time Saffa best XI despite those figures.

Bland, great fieldsman though he was, probably should make way for a better batsman. No spin, but perhaps that's not necessary with the rest of the attack as it is.

Clive Rice in with a shout? Boucher also in contention. Neil Adcock?
Also i'm sure the SA Selectors would be shouting quotas! quotas! In a fairer world would Basil D'Oliveria have be considered for this side?

Re: Ntini only 4 wickets behind Imran Khan
There seem to be a million all-rounders in contention. How could you leave Barlow out?
I don't think Boucher compares at all well to Lindsay as a batsman-keeper, or to Waite as a keeper.

Waite was a better batsman than Lindsay. Cameron probably about the same and both were better keepers.
Who would Barlow replace in my team?
Regarding D'Oliviera, he would surely be behind Tony Greig among England players.

You misinderstand me. I don't think Barlow could replace anyone in your team; I was simply expressing astonishment that players of his (and Procter's) calibre miss out.
Was Waite a better bat than Lindsay?
I expect both were far better keepers than Boucher.

Re: Ntini only 4 wickets behind Imran Khan
Denis Lindsay was a real enigma. Absolutely slayed Australia twice in home series. Scored 838 of his 1130 Test runs against Aus at 59.85 but averaged a more mediocre 37.66 overall.lardbucket wrote:Was Waite a better bat than Lindsay?

Re: Ntini only 4 wickets behind Imran Khan
Don't forget that D'Oliveria played his test career as a comparatively old man, who know what he would have achieved with a full career including his peak years?
I think old school keepers like Lindsay, Cameron and Waite are lucky they never had the kind of scrutiny the likes of Boucher & co now have. Hard to say exactly how good they were - I mean to hear some people speak now you would think say, Alan Knott, never dropped a catch. He did, and some very easy ones at that.

Re: Ntini only 4 wickets behind Imran Khan
I saw plenty of Knott, and always thought Taylor a better keeper. Knott was a far better bat, of course.
