Re: Who are the 5 greatest songwriters of all-time?
Obviously Dylan is the greatest.
Of those not mentioned I'd say Robbie Robertson at his brief peak and Joni Mitchell.
Lennon and McCartney were far greater together than the sum of their parts. It's arguable that Harrison was the better solo artist of the 3, he released possibly the best post Beatles album of the 3 (All Things Must Pass) and was the best guitar player.

Robbie Robertson? Is that Red's band?
Nobody going for Jim Morrison?
Or his grandson, James?
Has Woody Guthrie been mentioned? I like his drier lyrics (talking blues).

After the first couple of years of the Beatles, they wrote their own songs.

They brought the best out of each other, like a good fast bowling pair.
I'd mention Albarn as the best british modern pop composer

Dylan's carp singing would not be accepted today.
Chris Martin is accepted and he's, maybe not as bad as Dylan, quite a cringeworthy singer.

Martin's echo and the bunnyman/ dave matthew band style vocals is perfectly passable pop.
Nothing like Dylan nasal, montone, sneering half talk

Hear him on high pitched notes, absolute torture. Sounds like an over-excited 11 year old whiny girl.
And yes, not exactly Dylan standard bad.

I just can't get it when people say Dylan is a bad singer. I mean, which Dylan do you mean? His voice sounds different on just about ever album he's made. I personally love about 90% of them.

Yeah, had worse though. Luckily for me, nowt's been going on in the cricket. Rain and JAMODIs.... a good time for an infection, I feel.

Aye, not serious enough to operate though, this time. Which is quite fortunate - as there wouldn't be any decent cricket to recover to.

So has the scar not healed properly and is prone to reinfection? That can be nasty gear around the spine.Brass Monkey wrote:eowyn wrote:

Yeah, they always express a bit of concern, especially with how near the MRSA was to my spine, but usually they'd rush me in for an op - so considering I just got a couple of prescriptions for antibiotics, I reckon I'm not so bad. Alot of people have alot worse things. Downside for me is the work deadlines I've missed and how unhappy about that they are. it could be worse, I could be Gareth Batty.
