Re: English county season 2008 (VI)
Yet another win for mighty Derbyshire. 4 wins, 9 draws and only two losses. Not bad for saying we're weak in terms of batting and we've not had our best bowler for the entire season.
We should beat Leicestershire in our final game and finish third, just 20-odd points short of promotion and with the (joint) least losses in the league (2).
Next season, with Zulu on board, Lungley back and perhaps a spinner and a batsman I reckon we've got an awesome chance. Come on Derbyshire!

And I've just seen that Rikki Clarke has left Derbyshire and signed a three year deal with Warwickshire. Good riddance. He's been a nightmare. Nice signing Gilo!!
Rikki Clarke - 358 runs at 21. 18 wickets at 45.
Super Graham Wagg - 487 runs at 29. 55 wickets at 26.
And the Waggster is a couple of years younger.

Notts must be favourites - they play Hampshire, who are just about the only side (apart from Sorrey) who have nothing to play for.
Somerset have an awkward game against lancashire who will be cock-a-hoop after their win against Kent.
Sussex V Yorkshire - loser goes down, simple as

Guess Sky will be at Trent Bridge then, although Sussex/Yorkies looks like it would be a better game to watch....

Re: English county season 2008 (VI)
Looks like we're favourites then. I make that capitulation time, but it would take something spectacular even by Nottinghamshire's standards. I haven't picked my days yet for the up-coming match. I'd like Three and Four, but weather will have an effect on it. So too will the early play if someone's rolled over for f*ck all as has been pretty likely at Trent Bridge this season. It's great to see that Imran Tahir's gone to play for Titans instead. Looking at Hampshire's team, I don't see a lot to be afraid of, but they must be doing something right to have got so far up the table.

At the risk of offending GT, I shall be sorry if Sussex go down - as they've been a consistently good side in recent years.

If only it were that simple Bas. If we draw and Lancs or Kent lose Sussex and Yorkshire will survive. It's a pity Hants haven't got a few points less because Notts could quite easily turn them over inside 3 days at Trent Bridge without Hants gaining any bonus points. Tis fascinating stuff, fingers crossed the weather doesn't play a part, unless of course it helps Gods county.

Aye, you never got climaxes to the season like this in the "good" old days before two divisions. There's something riding on all four games, which is just as it should be.

As much as I like Rob Key I'm hoping it will be Kent. Their recent capitulation against Lancs was a kick in the teeth for us Yorkies and as much as I like to see the red rose county suffer local derbies are always something to look forward to.

He's not playing. We're taking a 13 man squad down to Sussex and Vaughan's not in it.
'The former England captain strained a side muscle while bowling on the final day of the Tykes' draw with Somerset on Saturday.'
'The 33-year-old also suffered soreness in his right knee and he did not field in the final session of the contest at Scarborough.'

Excellent news!
Yet certain twats in the media keep his "Vaughan must tour India" bandwagon rolling.
Which again begs the question ... on what grounds?

We have a chance then..! Gale in to replace Vaughan and a debut for Jon Bairstow in place of Pyrah?
The side v Somerset was poorly balanced after Gale dropped out with only 4 batsmen in the side, one of whom was '12 and out Vaughan'.
Re: English county season 2008 (VI)
Given the scorn you Yorkies pour on Vaughan would you say the best thing for both parties is for him to find another county for a fresh start?

I would say so to be honest. I can't remember his last meaningful innings for us.
It's a shame as he's always been a favourite player of mine, but I'd sooner Gale and Lyth were playing than MPV these days.

Only a small one I'm afraid. Pitching young Bairstow in with the threat of relegation hanging over the team would be a huge gamble. With Gough not playing Pyrah might keep his place to sure up the bowling.
As poor as they are this season Sussex have lost just 4? games in four seasons at home. We need to win the toss and score 400 and hope and pray Adil can weave his magic on the last day. The only thing in our favour is that Kent and Lancs are playing two good teams that are going for the title, but even that might work against us. If Notts are going well at Trent Bridge it might force Durham and Somerset to make ambitious declarations that hand the games on a plate to Kent and Lancs. Worrying times.

Before the central contracts were handed out my answer would have been an emphatic yes, but now we don't have to pay him I'm not so sure. I suppose it all depends on what the dressing room thinks of him, if there's any sort of negative vibe he's got to go.

Wonder if max bonus points would be enough to keep you up. Would only take 1 collapse at either game.

Think Yorks would one of the others to get bummed if we get max bonus points and a draw.
I just want us to win and send stabber Adams on his way.
