Getting back to the Championship, am I right in saying that Notts have choked big time and Durham look like pulling it off?

The irony is that Notts current overseas is a South African in Ashwell Prince.
He must have brought a bag of chicken bones with him into the dressing room for the rest to choke on.

Looks like it - Notts look like having to chase 400 in 80 overs to win the title

In the Middlesex v Northants match, Monty's apparently creditable 'Michelle' has been trumped by Udal's much more economical Pfeiffer.
Is Panesar's form of any serious concern to English fans, just 9 months out from the next Ashes series?

Yep ... huge concern.
He's going the way Piles did - predominantly bowls flat, pushes it through and lacks the gonads to flight the ball more often
and to give it some rip.
Udal for the Ashes.
Strauss helps himself at a run a ball ... again!
248 scored in the beer match.
PS : Ban India.

Notts look farked to be honest... although the pitch is playing very placidly not sure scoring at 5+ rpo is going to be easy.

Notts up against it - perhaps the championship pennant is on its way to Chester-le-Street. If that's the case, it'll be one sporting institution in the north-east that isn't a total joke!

Re: English county season 2008 (VI)
Very poor day, title hopes almost gone. The pitch has flattened out in the sun, but it nibbled about a lot this morning under the clouds. Andre Adams bowled wonderfully, I thought, the weather too was gorgeous, but there was no cutting edge in the attack once the ball stopped moving about. Pothas batted beautifully - it's hard to believe he has only played one ODI, but for some reason the pitch just died under blue skies.
You could probably chase down 300-ish on the pitch as it was today, but Nottinghamshire's batsmen are neither good enough nor focussed enough to get the job done. I still hope for an epic run-chase to seize the title, or some sort of battle from Kunt, but frankly, it's a one in a hundred thousand shot now as far as I'm concerned.

Re: English county season 2008 (VI)
I've got a lot of respect for Key, but he just totally lost the plot with his comments over the pitch at Chester-le-Street.
Anyone who has read Stephen Chalke's books about county cricket as it was played in the '50s and '60's will recognise that pitches were far more sporting then. Modern players are cosseted beyond belief. And the game is poorer because of a lack of variety in playing conditions.

I don't think he did lose the plot. I saw the interview and at the time I felt his comments were justified. I agree that 'modern players are cosseted beyond belief', but times have changed and rules are rules, and like Key suggested, if the ball seaming off the pitch at 45% and 38 wickets going down inside two days doesn't warrant a point deduction, what the f... does?
