Re: English county season 2008 (VI)
Read's keeping has been poor for most of the season. He's long past being the best keeper in the country.

Even the best wicketkeepers aren't robots with magnetic ball attracting gloves. To be fair Read's keeping was always very solid in the glare of international cricket.

And his pants were very soiled in the glare of international bowling.

He'll do for me will Plunkett. Let's get shut of Rana and bring in an overseas batsman.

That would be a fine signing for YCCC.
I'm fine with the overseas batsman idea as long as it doesn't impact on Lyth and Gale.
Re: English county season 2008 (VI)
You never know though, once he works out his lucrative contract with the ECB, Vaughan could emigrate to NZ, change his nationality and play for the Black caps ... he could then re-sign for Yorkshire as their overseas player.
That would be a fine signing for YCCC.
I so bloody wish !

Neil Carter signs for Middx to play in Stanford & possibly Champions league.
Nice gig if you can get it!

How pissed are you going to be if you lose your spot to a mercenary in on loan?!

Yup, not going to do much for team spirit is it?
Wonder if they've got a few unknown injuries at the moment....

Bad form that.
I was there on Tuesday evening chatting about the forthcoming gigs and no mention was made of subs coming in.
They kept that quiet !
What does Carter do for a living?
Sucks IMO ... a 33 yo ... must've thought he won the lottery when he got the call.
Like JKL says, just hope it doesn't bugger up team spirit (which, I can report, was tip top judging from the high spirits!).

He's a decent player in that form of the game though - with both bat and ball

Just picked this up off the WCCC website ... which kinda explains things.
Carter regularly opens for Warwickshire in one-day cricket and could be used in a similar role by Middlesex, but his main position will be to cover for Dirk Nannes, the left-arm quick bowler, who will be back with Victoria.
Okay - understandable .... I guess.

Nannes must be pissed to return to the Vics though - isn't he a bit part player there?
Could be losing a huge amount of cash...

Specifically brought in for the T20 gigs ... awkward and quick left arm seamer - played a big part in Mddsx's success.
Aye, unless he's been offered a few bob as a form of compensation, I reckon he must be right royally p!ssed off at
being called up by Victoria!
Middsx seem to like their Jaarpies ... Carter's another one !

Wonder if there will be more IPL carp because of this... didn't Carter represent one of the 'banned' counties?

One opening and one at 5, and as someone has suggested on CoU, the likeable South African captain Graham Smith opening at t'other end. Reet do!
Cork to Hampshire, nice. Anywhere but Yorkshire.

I liked the bit about Cork joining a club "with so much ambition". They offered him better terms more like!

What are Jacques Rudolph's plans? Will he remain a Kolpak? Or does he still harbour international ambitions?

I wouldn't mind betting Worcs. will be sniffing around Plunkett too. We've already talked to Onions - presumably without success. Same theory - recruit a decent England-qualified bowler and recruit a batsman as overseas player.
Trouble is, recruiting a halfway decent player is only going to get harder with the money on offer from the IPL.

Plunkett needs something to change. His career is in freefall. Although he did scrape into the Lions squad.

He extended his contract at the end of last season, he's a full blown Yorkie and here to stay now.

What? He owns a whippet and wears a flat cap? I don't believe it....
