Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
Most Overrated
1992 World cup- Excellent win and the way they won the tournament was quite amazing but its time to get over it. At the end day it was an ODI tournament and no ODI tournament win should be remembered for more than a few years.
Most underrated
Test team between 1985 to summer 1993- In the 8 year period the team only lost one test series(close series against AUS in AUS)

Good thread. Of recentish times for Oz:
Overrated
The "streak" v 1. Mostly home wins and poor opposition.
Underrated
The Final Frontier 2004. This year's series in India showed what a terrific performance that was in 2004.
Special mention to the 2006 Ashes - confident opposition made to self destruct in the face of a massively disciplined team performance.

over-rated is easy - t20 world cup
under-rated - trinidad 2002. gave india belief it could win tests away from home and started a mini golden-age for us. we had not won a test away from home since 1993 in sl and before that in england in 1986

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
Unless Zim is to be considered a proper test side.....
Agree with TO on T20 WC being most over rated.
Underrated is winning series in WI and Eng in 2006-07. No matter what people may say, But Dravid emulated Wadekar and gave some relief to statistics where we don't win enough series outside India. I also think that the India eries win in SL in 1994 is also underrated. Most teams will agree that beating Lanka in Lanka is also very difficult.

they were quite proper back then because they came back to win the 2nd test and draw the series against IND. I also remember them winning the one off test against IND in the late 90s....Batman wrote:Unless Zim is to be considered a proper test side.....

Believe it or not in 1994 ZIM defeated PAK by an innings in one of the tests but still lost the series as PAK came back to win the next 2 tests. Then in 1998 they once again defeated PAK but this time they managed to secure the series as the next 2 test matches were fogged out.

India's win in England in 1971 remains under-rated.

There was nothing wrong with the Fab 4. We just didn't have bowlers like Pigeon, Dizzy, White Lightening or Fatman to restrict the opposition on good pitches or back the 4 up when they scored well. All we had was overworked Kumble and Srinath with likes of Aquacker, Prasad and inconsistant Bhajji.

It was 1 v Zim, 3 v India (in Oz), 3 v Pak (in Oz, including Hobart), 3 v NZ in NZ, 5 v WI in Oz, 1 v India away before Calcutta.

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
As an England fan, I can't think of many overrated accomplishments. Before anyone says the 2005 ashes, I would like to say that I think that was a fantastic achievement by England and shouldn't be overrated at all. Pity we've been gash since then, mind....
JGK- I think Aus's victory in Sri Lanka earlier that year was more underrated than the 'final frontier series.' Sri Lanka is a hell of a tough place to tour. Apart from Aus, when was the last time any team won or even drew a test series in SL?
Actually, the answer to that question may well be my nomination for England's most underrated performance- Their 2001 series win in Sri Lanka.

The 2004 win for the Aussies wasn't under-rated. India was pretty poor in that series.
Over-rated - The tri-series win in Aus earlier in the year.

Aye.
Also the 7-0 summer tests against NZ & WI in 2004 - not so much that it was great opposition - just for someone who had grown up watching English cricket mid-80's to win all 7 summer tests would have been unthinkable.
Over-rated - Bothams innings at Leeds in 1981. Having seen it ball by ball again recently, the first 50-70 runs were full of hacks over or through the slips. His innings 2 tests later was his best test knock ever imo, therefore under-rated.

India had pretty much the same players who beat Aust this year except they were all a bit younger.

Henry - agree that the Sri Lanka whitewash is under-rated, esp after conceding first innings leads every match. Warne was quite majestic in that series.

Over rated = Not sure I can over rate anything we have acheived, particularly given how rarely success has come these days.
Under rated = chasing 418 in the last innings against Mcgrath, Lee, an onfire Gillespie and Stuart Mcgill back when he could really bowl. Especially as Ridley was sawn off by ump David Sheppard and Shiv was batting with a broken finger.

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
over-rated: the 1-1 draw down under. it was a good achievement but there was no mcgrath and some of the pitches were flattish. still the best series i have ever seen in terms of pure batsmanship, from both sides. but the bowling was quite poor, kumble apart.
under-rated: gotta agree with vikas - the series wins in england and WI under dravid finally got the OS monkey off our backs. ENG dont lose many at home, and WI are still quite strong at home especially for asian sides (pak and SL have still never won there iirc)
FWIW, i dont think the 20-20 WC win is/was overrated. the way india played that tournament with confidence and panache; to win a world title and to do so without the big 5; dhonis captaincy; beating pak twice including the final; the way so many of the games went to the wire; pissing off ponting and symonds by smashing them in the semis; yuvis six 6-ers .... SO MANY memories from that tournament. it was special. imo, and as cliched as it may sound, it signalled the dawn of the 'new india' both on and off the field

That was a win against all odds. Hence its high rating.
