Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
Nothing against T20, just that 20 overs of fast food junk slam bang doesn't really count as a cricket match for me. The format is designed for FTBs and batsmen and whoever slogs best wins. The whole concept is overrated in my opinion. But I will be glad if it phases out ODIs. JAMODIs have gotten stale and are now quite meaningless and boring to watch. Waste of time as well. I could probably learn to take T20 seriously IF they give something for the bowlers in it in the future.

Over rated- Javed Miandad's six against C Sharma in the 1986 final. A lot of people feel that one match turned the momentum towards Pakistan causing Pakistan to dominate IND over the next 20 years.
Truth is that PAK were simply a far better team than IND and would have won games even if Miandad has NOT hit that six.

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
thats true to quite an extent. though in close matches till a few years later it did make a difference in my opinion. but the difference in quality between the teams was the main reason pakistan won so many more matches
but not the ones that matter (world cup)

world cup matches are quite a mystery...The One wrote:thats true to quite an extent. though in close matches till a few years later it did make a difference in my opinion. but the difference in quality between the teams was the main reason pakistan won so many more matches

forget about the real world cups Pakistan can't even beat IND in T20 world cup ...and both matches were very very close.
Having said that i am glad that 2 closest test matches between the 2 teams(Chennai and Bangalore) went PAK's way...even the Kolkata 99 match was quite close.

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
bangalore? wasnt really close was it? we just collapsed when it was an easy draw. madras and calcutta were two tragic tests. tendulkar at the centre of both

On a side note
I am glad that you refer to the Indian cities by their old names.

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
i have been calling them that since i was a kid. so i'm used to it. the way they were changed is also something that grates. they should have had a city-wide referendum to see if the citizens of the cities themselves wanted the change or not. stupid politicians
i see you dont use the new name for bangalore - bengaluru

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
I fully agree with your reasoning...
They changed Madras's name a good 10-12 years ago so for a good chunk of my life i have heard it being referred to as Chennai so even though i want to call it Madras i sometimes forget and call it Chennai. On the other hand Bangalore's name wasn't changed that long ago so i still remember to call it Bangalore.

bombay was first changed to mumbai in 1996 or so. then it was madras a year later and calcutta a year after
bangalore was changed last year. ridiculous, esp bombay to mumbai. probably the worst re-branding decision ever, losing so much brand value

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
weren't they changed in an attempt to shake off the colonial past - i.e. weren't these the names before the raj? i may be wrong
re: miandads last ball 6. it wasnt so much the act that caused paks future domination, it was more a watershed moment in our rivalry. similar to centurion park 2003, which signalled the start of indias domination. imo.

hmmm.. .since the 03 WC i think its quite even in ODIs.
In tests IND have won 4 games(2 series wins) while PAK have won 3(1 series win).

Re: Whats your team's overrated and underrated accomplishments?
Calcutta to Kolkata is more or less just a change in spelling, not even much in pronounciation. People like Ravi Shastri still can't get it right though, so maybe they should have stuck with Calcutta. Bangalore to Bengaluru is similar, and probably will be the hardest to get used to. I wouldn't personally have a problem with Bombay to Mumbai if some people (stand up Mr. Thackeray) weren't rabidly trying to 'enforce' it...

Most under-rated:
Beating everyone to win the Ashes, the World Championship and the three-way ODI series in Australia in 1986/7.
Most over-rated:
Beating the atrocious Pakistan team 2-0 last time they were here.

kind of agree with Pakistan issue as they were missing their Mcgrath and Warne...Rob I wrote:Most under-rated:
