They should play Chawla. I'd go with him ahead of both Harbhajan and Powar if I had to go with just one spinner.

Knowing that Pathan is that overweight pacer who huffs and puffs after bowling an over, it appears that he did pretty well by being the most economical Indian bowler on display.

He bowled a good line and Clarke and Haddin were both content to take whatever bad balls he offered rather than attacking him. He didn't seem to get much, if any, movement, but if he keeps that nice tight line just going across the right-handers he will be more than useful in the middle overs.

He bowled a good line
Yep, he did and apart from Sree who was erratic inbetween, he was India's best bowler on a very flat deck.

RPS though seemed to be taken to cleaners by Australian bats. The way Hayden charged to him, looked like they were targetting him like they did in the Twenty20 SF.

Me too.

Dennis may be right after all.

He bowled 145 plus or minus every ball off one over.

He has bounced back very well since the Carribean and left armers at that pace are usually potential wicket takers.

Don't think Australia has fielded another left arm pacer since the days of Reid or was Julian a lefty?

Reid, BJ, Bracken

I think that's about it for the last 15 years.

Yes, and that is not just from the batting perspective. The team dynamics look so very positive and purposeful when the younger generation is on its own.

a post "big 3" team would look something like:

sehwag
gambhir
uthappa
yuvraj
r.sharma
dhoni
pathan
harbhajan/chawla
zaheer
santh
RP singh

the batting does look a little thin. it might be a good idea to keep dravid or tendulkar in a little longer to hold the side together til the others grow in experience and are able to play those big innings. we shouldnt get too carried away by the 20s and 30s in twenty20. of all the new batsmen only gambhir has shown signs on stickability.

I would replace Uthappa with Kaif to bolster the "stayer" aspect. Just don't get the feeling that Pathan will last. He is now being spoken as a batting all rounder ie. somebody who can bowl some steady overs without being a front line bowler. In that case we are better off looking at guys like Badrinath.

pathans bowled quite well since his comeback. mid-130s, accurate and has rediscovered the inswing. i was quite impressed with yusuf pathan the little i saw of him. he should get a run - push the spinners.

kaifs been iffy in the A games afaik. raina too. badrinath and tiwary are probably ahead atm.
