Pretty ignominious achievement by Drunky.OP Tipping wrote:The last time Australia lost a test series to South Africa IN Australia was never.
Being in charge when Aus lost the World's no. 1 Cricket Team title AND losing a series to SAf in Aus for the first time.
Still, at least he did his bit in this match with 101 and 99. Qunt of a shot to prevent a 100 in each innings.

way harsh skully - punter with siddle, haddit and johnno can emerge from the wreck with a modicum of credit...the kid tried very hard (after his perth idiocy) but does not look a class batsman against very good hostile bowling...fleas tried hard and had an average game

After watching this Aus side walk over broken glass in the last 15 years to achieve victory h, I find the meak surrender to India and now the Yarps over the past 2 months, to be a little hard to swallow without harsh comment.

admit to making the odd critical comment myself S...i cannot understand the hubris that persuades players through the ages to stay a season or two too long (or career in Bunk's case)

"Pretty ignominious achievement by Drunky. "
I would still not rank it up there to losing the Ashes _with_ TGM, tgm and Johnny.

Aye, fair call, OP. But at least we still retained the no. 1 in the wake of Ashes 05.OP Tipping wrote:"Pretty ignominious achievement by Drunky. "

Our batsmen may be reasonably competitive but if Gump doesn't tour then we will not be capable of dismissing your boys twice to win a match.

Not as one-sided an equation as you might think, taips.taipan wrote:JGK wrote:taipan wrote:And given the fact that his average is higher as captain.
As I said yesterday, that's only because he is a better batsman now, not because he's captain. The diff is 60 v 55 - the 55 includes most of his India matches.
Fair enough but most captains' averages drop when becoming captain.

By the way horrie, it's not just Punter we're pissed at. Read around, you'll see there's plenty more being shot at.

Thanks Zatty. I didn't realise that Smith had only played 8 tests before assuming the captaincy.

Isn't the point that it wasn't this Aus side that got you to the top?

True. But the post-not-this-Aus-side showed the same kind of spirit. Not anymore.
