Live Aid. I must've remembered that. 1985 wasn't it?
Re: Earliest memory of a world event you can remember?
Although I must have been very young, Aberfan made a huge impression on me.

The Great Storm of 1987 - I remember that.
We were in morning assembly at my junior school when the roof of a building opposite blew off and crashed through the hall windows.
No-one was hurt. At least that's how I remember it. Perhaps there were multiple fatalities - all I know is that we all got sent home and the school was shut for a couple of days.
Good times.

Good Goldie tune. '97 if I remember correctly. Ah, Drum 'n' Bass was kicking off... well a couple of years after Bukem had got it sorted anyway... good times..
Re: Earliest memory of a world event you can remember?
I know what my earliest world event memory was: ET - the extra testicle (1982)
I would've been six. I remember seeing it at the cinema.
No, Superman II was (1981) in UK cinemas. I definitely saw that.
Oh, I don't know. I can't remember what I did yesterday, let alone many moons ago...

The antics of the Yorkshire Ripper scared me throughout the later 70's, and so did the Iranian Embassy Siege cos my brother said it was going to trigger a nuclear war.
But he also told me that blood oranges had real blood in them.......

You can't have slept through all of it - it carried on well into the morning.
Like I said - blew my school's roof off while we were all in it.

Honestly, woke up in the morning to be told no school today.
Don't remember it being that bad after 9am as I remember us going outside to survey the damage

Earliest sporting event I can remember - watching Nottingham Forest beat Luton Town in the 1959 FA Cup Final. (Elton John's uncle broke his leg).
Earliest political event - my father swearing at the TV when it showed the results of the 1959 General Election the morning after polling day (the Conservatives won handily).
The memories are a little hazy but I was only 37yo at the time!
