Concur with you about their batting - on it's day it can put decent scores together.
Not sure I agree about Edwards/Taylor 'running' through teams though - I always think when we've played them that they both are capable of 2 or 3 wicket bursts but as a side collectively the WI always seem to let you off the hook...
Aye, but look at what our tail is going to be like.... Its not like we have a Vettori, Johnson etc to come out to bat at 8. We have Broad perhaps, Followed by Sibo, Harmi, Anderson, Monty!
If they get us 5 down cheaply then we are fooked!

Harmison's on fire with the willow of late.
Still can't bowl for toffee, though...

I'm gutted that Bravo is out of the entire series. Big loss for WI and for cricket lovers the world over. Bravo could have been the difference for the WINDIES. As it stands, it'll mean that they'll have to work harder and not depend so much on the stunning batting of Gayle and gritty nuggety almost frustrating but efficient batting of Shiv.
Not sure how the bowling attack will go against England, but from what WIFAN has said, Jaylor and Fiddy will do well, whilst Daren Powell will almost likely fail extravagantly.
I still want to Amit to play.

Amit is playing for Windies A on Thursday. He has just taken 6/49 in an FC game, so if he does half decently against England I'm sure he will play.
Btw that A team has been finalised again because Daren Bravo and Kemar Roach are injured (meaning that two of our fastest bowlers on the fringes of selection are now injured, so Powell will have a free run of things)
Adrian Barath
Kerian Powell
Sewnarine Chattergoon
Lendl Simmons
Leon Johnson
Darren Sammy (c)
Devon Thomas (wk(
Gavin Wallace
Kevin McClean (young Bajan fast medium bowler who plays for the CCC)
Amit Jaggernauth
Brandon Bess
Nowhere near as strong as it was before a spate of injuries hit our younger players, particularly to the pace attack, but the spinners should prove a handful and the batting lineup is very talented.

Better news on Fred's injury - it doesn't look like the same sort of problem that kept him out of the side last year. Still, even if fit, he'll go into the first test very short of bowling.

Excellent news. I want to see a full strength England side in the Caribbean. I hope he plays against Windies A and gives our youngsters a taste of what test cricket will be like.
Btw I saw a picture of our own injured all rounder Dwayne Bravo the other day, and he has really bulked up, he has clearly been hitting the gym big style. If he ups his pace when he is fully fit he is going to be awesome.

Aside from the fact that no-one bowled more overs than him in India a month ago.
I suspect he'll be in reasonable bowling shape whether he plays the final warm-up or not.
Batting, not so much...

Oh, and Shah was back netting today, so it looks like his eye injury was a bit of a girly cry for attention.

I liked Athers' comment today that the scratch might have been caused by Bell's fingernails!

Interesting to see what happens if Collingwood fails in the match against WindA.

Colly will play, of that I'm sure.. Actually, I was a bit surprised he didn't replace Fred rather than Swann in the current game.

Was a bit pointless, as Swanny hasn't even had a bowl (at the time of typing this).
Re: West Indies v England, 1st Test, Kingston, Feb 4-8
Fred doesn't need bowling. He's the sort of guy who can pick up a ball after 2 months and put it on a length straight away.

"Unity was responsible for the team's success in New Zealand. The guys are working better as a unit and fully understand their roles."
And yet Powell himself is incapable of understanding his role as a lower order batsman.

0-0 is success?
S'all relative I suppose. Oh well....expect some juicy comments in his direction if the Windies fail to live up to his prediction.

The man is a fool. He is holding the team back, and now he makes outrageous predictions even though he has the worst record imaginable for an opening bowler.

Re: West Indies v England, 1st Test, Kingston, Feb 4-8
This thread needs to get Rikki'd. Especially with it only 3 days away.
After the decent warm up England, the XI is now quite clearly obvious.
Strauss*
Cook
Bell
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Prior+
Broad
Sidebottom
Harmison
Panesar
As bloody expected but, we can still dream of a Golden Pair for Bell.
WI on the other hand, well I might not be correct but here is what I reckon will be the final XI...
Gayle*
Smith
Sarwan
Chanderpaul
Marshall
Nash
Ramdin+
Taylor
Jaggernauth
Powell
Edwards
Despite my hopes of a Jagger game, I expect Benn will get the nod considering the WICB know nothing of decent spin bowling.

First innings duck, second innings 60 not out to save his place when the result of the match is no longer in doubt...DJ_Smerk wrote:As bloody expected but, we can still dream of a Golden Pair for Bell.

The World's best batsman shouldn't be batting any lower than 2nd drop.
