Re: West Indies v England, 4th Test, Bridgetown - Feb 26-Mar 2
Said it before, say it again: this referral system is the biggest pile of crap since crap began.
Just leave it to the umpire. He'll get a few calls wrong, but that's life - at least we won't have the farce of every batsman who gets given out LBW automatically challenging it, and replays suggesting that some decisions are wrong but not "wrong enough" to overturn.
It all seems so cheap. It's not cricket.

There is no pitch doctoring. ARG is always flat. Kensington has been getting flatter year by year. All our wickets has fallen by the lbw route. The first 3 were touch and go at best. Chanderpaul's was just horrible.

Well I think it's a wider issue- pitches like this are as big a threat to test cricket as anything. Granted there's similar pitches all round the world from Lords to Adelaide but five days of massaging of batting averages is obscene.
For the record I resent the Windies racking up the runs as much as seeing the likes of Bopara and Ambrose cashing in. It's all so bloody meangingless.

Its also second time he has got it unequivocally wrong this series. He also gave Powell out caught behind when a blind person could see he didn't touch the ball in the 1st test. Harper should be made to retire after this match.

Makes both umpires and tv replays look inadequate at the same time. And it's all so random.

Oh get over it. Chanderpaul should accept it's a good idea to play balls that are close-ish to his stumps with his bat.

And it makes me feel inadequate for watching it.
How can I justify my love of cricket to my friends when it's degenerated to this? Just makes me look like a freak. And probably a pervert too. With intimacy issues. And a big, long car.

Your batting clinic back in session?
Can't you just be content with ruining Ace?
Re: West Indies v England, 4th Test, Bridgetown - Feb 26-Mar 2
When the evidence presented to the third umpire is clear to any fool, yes even me, that the ball was going to clear the stumps, I would like to hear his explanation for why he still gave it out.Eric Air Emu wrote:Demelza wrote:They should be brought to account and publicly explain the logic in their decision.WIFAN wrote:That us the sort of decision that should earn Harper his pension. His 47 balls of studied defence very much set-up the England's total you'll find.

Easy to say watching on telly- stand out there for 3 hot days with the players appealing at every opportunity and have to make a split second judgement which may or may not be overturned by Mr 3rd umpire. On top of this he gets paid tiny amounts compared to the players, spends a whole lot of his life living in hotel rooms and gets little or no praise when he does his job well (which he probably does most of the time). Picking on the umpire is just poor sport.

Harper has just made a decision that could well cost us the game when the World's premier batsman over the last 2 years is sawn off when even fans of the opposition are disgusted with it and tempted to turn off their tv sets. Ideally, one of the sides will win playing fantastic cricket and no mistakes by the officials that alter the course of the match will be made. That has been nowhere near the case here.

Its not the on field umpire we are talking about(although Tiffin has always been poor when I've seen him) It's the third umpire who has time and a freaking tv screen and still can't tell when a ball is going over the stumps when everyone else can.

Harper in injecting a bit of life into an absolute corpse of a test match shock.

I am at a lost for words right now.
Harper needs to go. You can't be this bad as a television umpire.

All 5 are questionable. The last 2 were inexcusable. I'm glad Dyson is going to see the match referee about this.

Man, how good is Ronnie Sarwan going at the moment? 3 tons in 4 innings.
England still well in front but WI battling grimly for a draw.
