Durham signs Dave Warner for T20
I'm sure he starting to wonder whether he should bother with that first class rubbish.

He probably shouldn't bother with much else at all on the evidence of his performances in semi-real cricket.

It had to happen - some county was bound to be tempted to sign Warner. But Durham FFS! The ball ball will dart off the seam more in one over than he's used to in an entire season in Aus.

Well, if he fails, it's all just hit and giggle in your jammies, isn't it? The Brian Rix form of the game.
And if he comes off, it can acclimatise him to "English conditions" and cement his place in the Oz OD side for years of Pom-crushing to come.
So what's the problem?

I think Davey Boy Warner should go back to the nets, learn a solid forward defensive stroke and then return.

It's a bit of a joke really, I think the merging of counties would strengthen the quality of players. Although, it would take a lot longer for young talent to prove themselves and it would be harder for them to get first class games under their belt.

Don't you mean a famous couple of England Fops?
Can't really blame Durm for Blacksmith though. He has only just landed there.
And I wouldn't put Colly down as a flop. Some would say he has overachieved, given his technical shortcomings.

I remember last year's restructure of English cricket, to begin in 2010. There's going to 18 local sides and 2 foreign sides, in two divisions of 10 teams each ... um, the same as now.
BTW, how bad could Direham be if Will Smith is the captain?

Re: Durham signs Dave Warner for T20
Basically I think that no one is ever going to agree to a serious merger.
Another idea is to run a separate season of zonal competitions (either concurrent with the county comps or perhaps after the county finals: would require some rejigging of schedules, obv.). Locals only, no foreigners.
So a player would turn out for Yorkshire in the county comps, and then turn out for the Northern Zone. Advantage is that it would be a stronger competition. Disadvantage is that players and fans care about Yorkshire CC and no one would give a damn about Northern Zone. You'd have to throw some money at it to make players care.

A zonal/regional/franchise structure will not work in England. It's just a masturbatory fantasy for supporters of counties hosting test matches.
Not worth discussing.
