I was first slip when I played. Outside of the slips, mid on or mid off aren't bad positions.
Fielding in close is obviously the worst. You can't really enjoy yourself when you're wondering if the next ball is the one that's going to get smacked into your bollocks.

I prefer the term, "Strange Young Man" actually.
I don't mind Silly Point either. (The Position not the Ex-Forummer, he was just insane).

As punishment for players who are out of line, the captain should send them into silly mid off without armour protection.

Kept wickets. But favourites were cover or mid-on. One of the joys of cricket - IMO - is walking in as a fielder from those two positions, as the bowler went through his run up. Feels predatory, gives a sense of anticipation that I never found in another sport.

Nice analysis. I agree.

Re: What's your favourite Fielding Position?
I preffered positions where I was standing more or less on the same line that the ball was coming from like first slip or mid on and mid off. I didn''t like the side on positions such as square leg or point because there was less time to react.

Anywhere closest to where there were hot chicks watching the game....
or in the absence of hot chicks, the pavillion bar.

I'd be perfect to field under Nasser's nose.

Re: What's your favourite Fielding Position?
I remember my high school first XI had a game on during school time, and it was the school lunch break, and lots of students were down by the oval watching the game. I was on the fine leg boundary and made an absolute Allan Mullally of the stop on the slightly bumpy outfield, allowing the ball to go through for four. The sarcastic cheering rang out and I was as embarrased as f*ck.

It's just an evil nod to agree with the position you chose. I like it too.

Gully, point or in the covers ... in any event, always on the off side.

Anywhere but short leg or any of the sillies.
The bowling was never good enough for that.

Re: What's your favourite Fielding Position?
I didn't have the strongest throwing arm, so I volunteered for short-leg/silly point. Loved it actually - could be a bit iffy and I usually kept a bruise going on my shin for the whole season (before shin-pads!).
Otherwise out of the way, where my throw would not be exposed.

Mid-wicket. In early season England pitches, there was hardly any work for me.

Re: What's your favourite Fielding Position?
mid wicket or as a 'drive (wo)man'. Really close for crapola oppo against our spinners.
I hate the bobbly outfield misfields. Ultra embarrassing. I usually sook about the ones that whiz past and I daren't stick a hand out to, too.
