Australia in ODIs
have the worst win-loss ratio amongst test playing nations this year
link
is this the end of the great aussie odi machine? two world cups without a single loss but i cant imagine they will be amongst the top 3 during the next one

Re: Australia in ODIs
It's distorted because we have only played SA and NZ ...and SA have smashed us
It could be the end of the run but I could see this team , if physically and mentally fit , going through undefeated again
Haddin
Watson
Ponting
Symonds
Clarke
M Hussey
Ferguson
Heal
Johnson
Lee
Bracken
--------
Tait
Marsh
Hopes
Clark
Hauritz

Re: Australia in ODIs
The stats are a bit of a joke too. Zimboks are the third most successful this year behind India-SA. 7 wins against 3 losses all against Bangars, Kenya and who else?

Re: Australia in ODIs
even with that team being at its best i cant see it going undefeated like 2003 and 2007. what those teams had was a lot of 'genius' at the time, which in this team i can only see in ponting and maybe johnson. lee, hussey and symonds dont look like the same odi players they were and the rest are solid but unremarkable
i think this would almost certainly be the end of an era, with a more even contest with the other teams. i dont expect aus to go bottom of the table, but they are no more far ahead of the rest

I did emphasize "physically and mentally fit" ....Gilchrist , Hayden , McGrath and Hogg are big shoes to fill

Re: Australia in ODIs
i would think even a "physically and mentally fit" australia would struggle to dominate a "physically and mentally fit" indian or south african side

Re: Australia in ODIs
They are all very close teams ...Oz may not dominate ....but in a WC i'd back the Saffies to choke and the Indian batting or bowling to fall apart when it matters ...It's just my opinion , may not happen ....The way Nielsen coaches I doubt the Ozzies will be mentally fit for the next WC anyway

Re: Australia in ODIs
we'll just have to wait and see i guess. 2 years is a long time and anything can happen in between. one or two great bowlers, an outstanding batsman. who knows
the champions trophy could be a pointer

Re: Australia in ODIs
I don't share your faith in the likes of Heal. It's doubtful Punter will ever be quite the dominant force he was in either major form of the game, while Clarke and Hussey (who's looking more and more fragile) often profited from the great platform which was set for them by Gilly and Hayden. The opening combination is problematic. Watson is vulnerable when the ball is swinging, and Haddin can be damaging but is inconsistent.

Cheers MB.
6 wins out of 21 for us, 4 against SA at home last year
Clever stuff...

Re: Australia in ODIs
It's no biggie. Is it ever? WGAF who wins now? All ODIs are rendered friendlies because of the 'wiggedy whack' tournaments. I remember a few sides being decent until they rocked up to the WC, then all of a sudden they weren't.
Re: Australia in ODIs
In 20 years time people will talk about how in the summer of 2008/2009 the Saffies beat Australia on their home turf for the first time, and then inexplicably capitulated at home.
No-one will remember what the ODI results where.

We could as well be talking about them. Discs or cylinders, they're solid objects full of ego juice.

Wouldn't they be hollow and not solid then?
