I don't follow tennis that closely, only the 4 grand slams...

Still know who Monfils is though, he's pretty well known even amongst casual tennis fans.

It was a WR when he reached 11 consecutive semi finals, previous best was 10 by Lendl and Laver. So essentially he's doubled the world record this year. Quite incredible.
