OK, Midge gets one ball straight and gets an LB.

Funnier that Beefy and Bumble were slagging his technique immediately beforehand.

My original prediction for this series was 2-1 to Australia.

I'd like to change that to 5-0, unless there is some rain in which case 4-0.

And Bopara gets gunned by Dar. Hilfy has a wicket. Makes up for a shit first innings decision.

Doctrove got it wrong but if you're going to play across the line that way with a horrible technique, you'll struggle at #3. England has really gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in the space of a few days. Who needs rain? Smile

I've had to watch it because I can't get Fox in HD. MacDill is so wooden as a host.
I'd watch it in SD if that was the option.

And there's something about Magoo smiling that makes him look like he's about to go for someone's jugular. Maybe it's that I'm used to seeing him as a miserable qunt.

And to rub salt into the wound, it seems Bopara was not only given out to one too high, it also appeared to be a no ball.

The rain comes at the perfect time, during the tea break. Which means the ball doesn't get wet, keeping the chances of reverse swing alive later in the innings.

Last instance of 5 England bowlers conceding 100+ in an innings that I can find was at Lord's in August 1973 when the Windies scored 652-8d (Kanhai 157, Sobers 150*, Julien 121) and the miscreants were Arnold, Willis, Greig, Underwood and Illingworth (in his last Test).

North & Haddin's 200 is the highest for an Ozzie 6th wicket in England (and Wales) beating Steve Waugh & HHealey's 180* at Old Trafford in June 1993. It was also only 22 runs short of the fc record for the 6th wicket at Sophia Gardens.

What he said and she said.... we deserve what we got for our performance today.

The biggest mystery though is, why are Aus still not favourites with the bookies?

Thanks for your boys' efforts today, JK - Essex qunts have left us in massive trouble. I bet it'll be down to some proper Nottinghamshire lads in Broad and Swann to save the affair tomorrow as Nathan Hauritz bowls to a leg-slip, a slip, a gully, a silly point, a short mid-off, short mid-on, short cover, short mid-wicket, a finer short leg.

I was glad to see that smirk wiped off Bopara's face though - what an unjustifiably smug, arrogant bastard he is. Hopefully this brings him down to earth. I don't mind confidence, but you don't have to swan around as if everything's an affront to your ego - unless you're Kevin Pietersen.

of course if those Nottinghamshire lads had bothered to bowl half decently the glorious Essex rudeboi's wouldn't be facing scoreboard pressure!

Batsman's pitch - batsman's job. Suppose you get what you pay for when you pick up a couple of Essexites from Division Two.

Looks like the 1930 record of the highest score made by a side that has gone on to an innings defeat (405) is in serious jeopardy if it's fine tomorrow. Still held by England, though.

As far as Lord's goes, I agree with an earlier poster that Sidebottom and Onions should come in to replace Broad and Panesar. It might be argued before today's woeful performance that only the omission of Panesar for an extra seamer was necessary but I think more drastic remedies are called for and Broad looks totally out of his depth. The other change I would make is to swap Bopara and Collingwood in the batting order but it all looks a bit like rearranging the deckchairs on the "Titanic", to use a well-worn cliche, at the moment.

Nah, if we lose this game then just put in the seamer for a spinner and just tell them to go out there and put it right.

Too many changes never worked.

It did after Hamilton when both Grievous and Hoggard were dropped. Dropping two players might have an equal salutary effect as it did after that match if, for no other reason, than "pour encourager les autres" to quote Voltaire. After all, if the English can shoot admirals after a victory they should be able to drop Test players after a (probable) defeat.
