I would like to see that. Would put the money where the mouth is considering that ACB makes most of its revenue from the Indian tours and the Aussie players get a big share of their booty from Indian ads and sponsorships.Basil wrote:Aus just needs to refuse to play any more matches in India until this matter is resolved - that should concentrate a few minds.

You, sir, are an idiot.HH_pink wrote:Zat wrote:If the BCCI hadn't been so modding precious and denied the whole thing in the first place, and actually followed ICC portocols, then maybe this wouldn't have happened.
But of course, there are no racists in India, Indians can only ever be the victims of racism.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuull Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
So what should the BCCI actually have done? MRI-scanned all attending spectators' brains for any signs of racist thoughts? The fact is, once someone enters the stadium, they're momentarily free to do whatever they want to. In this case though, the Mumbai police did book four of the culprits: http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/oct/18abuse.htmFour persons, including a woman, who were among
the spectators at the final India-Australia cricket one-day
international match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai were detained for
alleged "misbehaviour".
The police refused to say if it was a case of racial abuse.
"We
have booked the four under Section 110 (behaving indecently in public)
of the Bombay Police Act for misbehaviour," Deputy Commissioner of
Police (Zone I) Brijesh Singh said.
Singh,
however, chose not to elaborate upon the alleged misbehaviour and also
did not comment when asked if the fans were booked for passing any
racial slur.
And when did Indians ever say, or act like only they can ever be the victims of racism? Don't go putting words into people's mouths.
It's bad. Very bad. It's the job of the devil. People have remained infertile for long periods of history because of this kind of bunny-mongering. Queen.
And rude, to go with it.

They should have asked HHP to audition.
But he seems thicker than any of the Apes in the movies.

Re: Monkey chants controversy in Mumbai too
I am not really that sure if the initial monkey gestures at Symonds were racist. To be honest I was not aware of mixed heritage of Symonds until now.
But with the paint on his lips, a distinct color, could be the reason why he was teased that way.
Not making any excuses but in a lot of plays or movies, monkey are represented generally with men applying color to their lips, a general trait associated with that charecter.
But what happened at mumbai is not excusable since it happened after this incident came out in the open. And the people who did it were fully aware of the situation and yet chose to go ahead with their mocking.
That said, Symonds certainly has not helped himself with the comments he has been making on and off the field. Even before the start of the series, he was taking a piss at how Indians celebrated their World cup win.
Its situation which just got out of hand very fast due to a lot of factors.

Re: Monkey chants controversy in Mumbai too
Yep good summary.
The Mumbai crowd behaviour is inexcusable and they happen to be the worst in India for quite some time now.
It is almost like they went on with it with a vengence once they realised that Symonds was getting upset due to potential racial interpretations.

Yep Chennai would be tbe best behaved. Kolkattans can be very emotional and get carried away. I would not classify the Mumbai crowd the same way, a lot of it seems to be planned mischief.

Booing is not racist. Did you see images of fans doing chimp calls with hands cupped around their mouth as reorted in the press?

Yeah, they just needed to watch Pontings' behaviour in the field and copy it.

Speaking about Ponting, he couldn't leave his customary sooking even in post match presentation ceremony and sooked about that very thin edge of Kartik off Lee, conveniently forgetting to mention that India's highest scorer was shafted by the same umpire, Aleem Dar earlier in the innings.

Ponting is a dill. Unfortunately we're stuck with him as captain. I have no problem with his battig, but he really is a dill.

Re: Monkey chants controversy in Mumbai too
It may be that many in the crowd did not understand the racial significance of monkey gestures and noises.
I would have excused it had it not been for the fact that the same thing has happened about three times, and that racism is shockingly prevalent in India.
I say bring back public flogging for such offenders, and I am dead serious. I would pay to see it. I would fcaking laugh.

Yeah we do have a monkey god. Pretty famous and one of the more fondly revered ones. Just google for "Hanuman".

Re: Monkey chants controversy in Mumbai too
I was reading comments by someone who went to the game, in another forum, and he said monkey chants were happening loud and clear, and some people were arrested in his stand for fighting among themselves, though he is not sure those atre the right people. He also said Hodge copped more abuse than Symonds.
