embee wrote:"Australia’s bowling had been the main problem"
...I thought it was our batsmen failing to make the follow on mark mainly getting out to "millionaire" shots to some nothing special bowling that caused us to be one-nil down
Watson's selection was 'justified' by Punter (at the toss) claiming it was strengthening the batting AND the bowling ...(and then being the tactical genius he doesn't bowl him in the first 36 overs)
Zat wrote:Well, I've gotta hit the hay. In advance, I'll congratulate Ian Bell in advance on becoming the first Warwickshire player to score a Test century at Edgbaston.
And I'll ask the question, why - if Watson was brought in to strengthen the batting and the bowling - hasn't he bowled yet?
I answered that question this morning....

Terra's got a good sense of humour to shake his head after that one ...where's the consistency from Rudi?

So, after getting in, Bell predictably gets out. Though he was lucky to get as many as he did. Flattering to deceive already.

From mickybobmanutd on 606: "Mitchell Johnson seems to have based his macho stares on those of Derek Zoolander."
It's actually quite uncanny .

Poor dismissal from Gimpy to end an excellent partnership.
50 up for Freddie, and a lead for England.
Going to be interesting if he keeps going for another hour or so.

Prior gone, but god I love Flintoff. WTF are we gonna do after this series? Could be a good 10-20 years until we get someone like him again.

We would have destroyed them this test if it weren't for the weather. Hopefully it won't be a pivotal point in the series.

Forecast has improved for tomorrow.
The BBC at least now have sunny intervals with a risk of showers, but the main body of rain not arriving until the evening.
Come on England!

Fark off back to your mark and bowl.
Make the next one a steak and kidney.

This knock from Freddy is bringing tears to my eyes. I've been waiting so long for him to do this again. I love.

England should try and get a lead of 100, and then declare so that they can have maybe 15 overs at Aus this evening.

Should be able to aim for a bigger lead, and have more than 15 overs at them with an extended final session in prospect.
Could be up to a 3 hour session if the light holds.
150 and the best part of 20 ought to be possible if we bat well.

Can we manage 100 lead, and get a couple of Aussies out by the close?

Yes but only if England are bowled out, I don't think Strauss will declare!
Flintoff's 74 highest by an England No.7 since Ambrose's 76* at Kensington Oval last February and against Oz since Geraint Jones' 85 at Trent Bridge in '05.

Ay Johnson...Why Don't You Just STFU; stop trying to be the hard man and bowl some deliveries that can't get creamed by the tail?

Midge making himself look like a qunt now.
It might be mean if you've got good batsmen tied down and in discomfort and you give them some verbals, but when you're getting flayed round the park by the tail , you're just quntsville, Arizona.

Who was Freddy trying to kid standing his ground after gloving that ball? Last time I saw something that blatant it was Harbhajan Singh trying to act like Pieterson didnt just bowl him.

Son of Chris finally makes a mark on the series. When he's in form, some of his shots remind me of Clive Lloyd.

Plays with the edge plenty, mind.
About a session's worth of overs left tonight. Handy lead. If England can get into them - three wickets, I'd say - they might have a sniff of this tomorrow.
Draw is obviously still massive favourite.

I think he stood there in surprise at how much the ball had turned, rather than acting like he hadn't gloved it.

Jimmy was a no-brainer, but I'd give it to Onions at the other end.
