09.09.09 Nothing to do with cricket - like that matters now

On 09.09.09, all the orginial albums by The Beatles will finally be released, on CD, in digitally-remastered format.

I have been lucky enough to jag a preview listen to selected tracks. The engineers have done a superb job.

It's entirely possible that, given the relatively small number of albums you have to sell to top the charts these days, The Beatles could repeat their old achievements and have several albums in the top 10.

Can they make Ringo's singing sound passable?

If they can make the rabble that is the Black-Eyed Peas sound like song birds, anything is possible.

A major disappointment is that 'Hey Jude' isn't one of the tracks to get the treatment. It was a non-Album single.

I was looking forward to seeing if the bit where George Harrison (is suspected of being the culprit anyway) says 'f*ck it' during it.

I'm sure he muttered "Fark off" many times towards McCartney during recording.

Yeah, but only one example made it onto record, AFAIK.

I thought if you played every Beatles record backwards it said anything from "McCartney is a qunt" to "Lennon sucks dogs balls"?

Most of the later singles were non album.

Seriously some songs shouldn't be remastered. Hey Jude is one of them.

Despite being compilations they have well and truly become recognised albums in their own right.

There's about 10 songs that were released as non-Album singles (Strawberry Fields Forver, Hey Jude, Revoluton etc.) that come together on the Blue Album.

If you ask someone under 40 how they got into the Beatles there's a strong chance they'll say it was through the Red and Blue albums.

They've remastered the 'Past Masters' set. I haven't had a chance to hear it yet, but that will cover the bulk, if not all, the non-album material.
