Get Trott in there FFS. Other than Pietersen, no batsman in England has a better list A record. And maybe they could consider calling up Alex Hales as well. He's young, fearless, and has an ability to hit the ball over the top.

Same story as the first game, decent enough bowling effort but let them get 20 or 30 too many, a target which our extremely poor batting line-up isn't capable of reaching.
It's only these slowish low-scoring pitches that even allow us to be in the game, on the sort of pitch where 300 is par we wouldn't have the batting firepower to get anything even approaching competitive.

We're never going to win ODI's with 30's and 40's however well we bowl

You've lost it, Henry. First Hildreth, now Hales. As long as they're young and have scored a hundred in the last year, then you're calling for them. Personally, I'd get Davies in as keeper and open with him, bring Cook back as a number 3, drop Collingwood/Shah for somebody - the somebody would probably be Trott. Then get rid of Anderson, maybe for a batting all-rounder (perhaps Fatel if he ever becomes fit).

In the thread I started, I suggested opening with Davies as a specialist batsman, with Foster keeping wicket and batting at number 7.

Foster's shit, his batting isn't up to it. He's not even that good a one-day batsman, full stop.

83 off 38 balls yesterday! Certainly hasn't looked like producing his county form on the international appearances he's made up to now though.Chivalry Augustus wrote:Foster's shit, his batting isn't up to it. He's not even that good a one-day batsman, full stop.

Well, clearly all over now. We needed this one to be in the series, with Drunky to come back I think a whitewash could be on the cards, or at least failing to win a game with the weather intervening in a couple of them.

The real crime was to fail to have batsmen there at the end to take advantage of BLee's "Death Bowling"

Or to fail to actually have batsmen there at all... The top 9 all play like bits and pieces players who get a few then get out, and the last two are genuine tailenders.

That was his highest ever one-day score - it was 60-odd the last time I looked, but he might have bettered that between then and the 83 yesterday. Not saying it wasn't a good innings yesterday, but those five sixes wouldn't have cleared the ropes if it weren't for these washed down, pathetic boundaries you get nowadays where they're ten yards in.

That's the crux of it.
2 of the top 3 are not in the right position either.
Infact you could solve both 2nd opener and w/k problem by playing Steve Davies allowing another batsman.
Of course we'd look a lot better with KP & Fred, but have got to get on with trying to put out a better balanced side than this.
All over....

Oh, and Owais Shah needs to be dropped until he trusts his batting partner.
