Re: Films you've watched recently.
Who was the old ABC forummer who had a psychological problem with "The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith"?

Jimmy J?
In answer to the thread header: Fargo (fantastic), The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce (likewise superb), A Streetcar called Desire (greatly over-rated IMO), The Proposal (with Mrs L, quite pleasant), Angels and Demons (good scenery), My Year without Sex (not bad). Others I've forgotten.

Also - 'Jindabyne' (excellent) and 'The Boat that Rocked' (well worth a look, good fun). Quite a splurge really.

I recently watched the Pianist, before everything about Polanski blew up.

Re: Films you've watched recently.
Saw 'Away We Go' - Other than the opening scene being mildly amusing it was quite dull.
saw 'In the Loop' which was just about the funniest film I've seen. As good as 'The Thick of it'.

Before 1977?

Yeah, In the Loop was a giggle. Not sure it was quite as good as The Thick of it, though.
You F, asterisk, asterisk, c*nt.

[This is Rachel]
Mesrine - both parts - First part better than second, but entertaining, gripping and unexpectedly funny. As you would hope for from a French film, very stylish.
The September Issue (me only) - part documentary (made me want to be Grace Coddington), part real life Zoolander. The Editor at Large scenes were laugh out loud funny.
Coco Before Chanel (me only) - Not as good as I'd hoped, but not bad all the same. There was a wicket barrel bag early on in the film that I can't get out of my head though, which is really annoying!
Jarhead - I was on the computer when this was on, but I found it quite absorbing.
The Hurt Locker - really loved this. An actual explosives disposal squad would have a fit, but it was thoroughly gripping!
The Soloist - "classical music child prodigies who go a bit mental" is one of my favourite genres and this pushed all the right buttons, but there were some unsatisfactory points.
We may re-watch In Bruges tomorrow night, if I can find it in the rental shop.
Looking forward to the Fantastic Mr. Fox (loooove Wes Anderson films) and planning to sign up to LoveFilm to broaden the range of things available in the very near future.

Re: Films you've watched recently.
I went into In Bruges with low expectations because my mum loved it and I usually hate what she likes. An hour and a half later - bang! One of my favourite films of all time. One of the few films I've seen over 5 times.
What's your favourite Wes Anderson film Rachel? I'm a Life Aquatic Man, followed by Tenenbaums. The Darjeeling limited was alright (great soundtrack) and I must be one of the only people in the world that didn't find Rushmore all that great.

You can't help but love In Bruges. Brilliant film.
Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling Limited, Life Aquatic, Rushmore in that order. Bill Murray is a demi-god.

In Bruges was on Sky Movies the other week. I fell asleep after about 20 minutes. Not sure whether that was a reflection on the film, as it had been a long day...
Rushmore bugged the shit out of me. Couldn't get into it at all. Tenenbaums is probably my favourite Wes Anderson offering, but Life Aquatic may well be a work of genius - I haven't made my mind up yet.

LLL,
Tenenbaums and the Life Aquatic are about even for me. Then Darjeeling Ltd. Then Bottlerocket and Rushmore are about even too. Another Rushmore naysayer here then. It is Tom's favourite film!
Dello,
Give In Bruges another chance. It is worth it. We're going to Bruges on Saturday. I've been before, years ago, and Tom was suddenly much more interested in going after he saw In Bruges. It's a fairytale kind of place...

I've just purchased The Aristocrats online. This worries me slightly, as I've heard its a selection of offensive jokes. I'll let you know how it pans out.

Think it's just one offensive joke, told by numerous people in a slightly different way each time.
You paid for it?

Re: Films you've watched recently.
Saw In Bruges a few months ago. I though it was very decent, and I'd watch it again if there's nothing else to do, but I didn't feel it all that worthy of the praise its getting here.
Smerky, The Aristocrats is $hit, IMO. In terms of story content and viewing experience, the former quite literally.
