Which one is this (and which despot?)

So that's where Bob Brown is
I've mellowed in my old age. Though I doubt Bob would agree with my attitudes on retribution towards despots or radical greenies.

Appreciate the banter fellas ...
Okay like a pratt I'm going to leave out Viewed and Alcopop ... and box in
Master Oreilly
Roman Emperor
Daffodil
Mourilyan
Fiumicino
.... against the field.
The top four picks based on the sketchy form I've gleaned here from the Racing Post, and the last only coz I'm off to Rome this coming weekend (Fiumicino airport!)

How do you box horses against the field?

Individuals, combi forecasts and combi tricasts.
Here we also have distance betting; your choice vs the fave; named horses (with odds provided) matched against other named horses....
A veritable feast of betting, specifically targeted for large-field handicap races such as the MC or (much more fun) the Grand National at Aintree in April.

Ahh! Yes we have someone trying to do the same here. Not sure if they've got past the regulators yet. Sounds a bit too much like high level maths to me. About the furthest I go is spread betting. And even that is a bit too much like the stock market for my liking.

Re: Horse Racing Thread
I can't seem to marry spread betting with the nags ...
Win and place, a f/c and a tricast ... the end!
If it comes off, nice payday ... if not, then c'est la vie!
I only do spreads in cricket ... runs more than/less than target scores etc etc, nominate chosen batsman/score target etc .. no form study like the nags!
Here they touting Viewed hard ... and Hotspur of the DT (an Ozzie-Anglophile) calls Viewed, Shocking and Harris Tweed as his 1,2,3.

I like Shocking too, although I might hedge a bit by throwing something on Roman Emperor as well.
My roughies for the trifecta are Basaltico and Ista Kareem (if it rains). I suppose I'll have to throw Viewed in there as well just to be safe.

With Changingoftheguard scratched, Bart is the only former winning trainer with a runner today.
And Dollie (on Warringah) is one of the few former winning jockeys.

Melbourne cup day is farked. How hard is it to mark a bit of cardboard and then poke it in a slot?

Given your history of poking things in a slot, I would have thought you'd be an online man.

1. Need the practice.
2. Cannot do the online thing from this location.
I guess the one benefit is it's holiday in Vic so horace is not around

Re: Horse Racing Thread
If you're talking about the specially marked MC TAB tickets I refuse out of principle to use them. I put on a bet for Mum today (Mum thinks phone accounts and internet gambling is the preserve of gangsters) and the pub had a MC tickets only machine. I stuck Mum's card in, which was a normal TAB ticket just marked MR7.
"You should be in the other line."
"Why"
"Because this line is for MC tickets only"
"Well the machine is accepting it"
"Yes but we use this line for tickets specially produced for the Cup"
"Why"
"So regular punters don't clog up the line for the once a year punters. Quite often we have to explain the whole process to the oncers and revise thier bets for them"
"Aha! And it took me five seconds to put a non MC ticket in the machine and for the machine to give you the read. in the meantime you've spent a minute holding up the line telling me I should've used the other machine."
FFS! How can you fark up an MC ticket. You've just got to make two dashes.

Speaking of ijits - please remind me not to go into the office sweep next year. Took 5 horses, the shortest price is 12s.

I use the TAB for the trifecta because of the pool. The win bets go to the Northern Territory. Even at 8.00am this morning there's a bunch of chicks in pretty frocks asking you how to cross the amount and the horse number. For fun and to clog up the line i failed to mention the wn/pl box.

mmm I could go down there and try the "If you hold this for a minute I will do it for you" option

So you've got a pretty good chance. Just out of curiosity I checked the form commentary in a number of papers and the number of times "nice place chance came up" was unbelievable".
I'm used to the racing experts sitting on the fence but this is out of control. Though there was a lot of "needs a wet track".

Bart basically blasted it in the papers. Ex-mustering horse, untried trainer, untried jockey, a run too short etc, etc. You've got to admit he may have egg all over his face if the thing wins but he's probably just totally freaked out the connections, trainer and jockey.
