My version of it today was to box everything below 40-1. OF course farking Crimescene was 40-1.

Well done WW, Ponts, Hass and the rest of you Shocking punters!!
Good call - and at 8/1, decent returns.
I got half my stake back with my e/w punts on Morrilyan (running on too late) and Master Oreilly ... otherwise 11th 21st and 22nd!!!
HTF was CrimeScene in at the finish ... belittled his 40/1 odds the way he fought Shocking all the way to the line!

How did you get a payout on Master O'REilly which was 4th?

Handicap races with 16 or more runners pays the first four past the post here in the UK at 1/4 the odds.
And on the course itself, some bookies offer the first 5 past the post for 20+ runners in a handicap.
ALL the Cheltenham Jumps festival races (mid March) with 16 or more runners whether a handicap or not, also pays the first 4 past the lollipop.

Seriously? That's awesome. Although maybe that is outweighed by what seem to be sh1ttier odds because Shocking paid $11 here.

Re: Horse Racing Thread
Some punters here would have got the $11 for Shocking as they'd have left the price as SP on their bet.
I generally take our bookies odds offered here on foreign races like the MC, some big Saffer races and next week at the Breeders Cup meeting... at least then my punt isn't affected by local on course knowledge/rush affecting the odds adversely!
PS what did Mourilyan and Master OReilly pay oncourse btw?
I got 16's and 12's respectively

No you're right. you would've only got your money back for a half. I calculated on the div. Risky business hey.

Re: Horse Racing Thread
Well, that's my first win on the Melbourne Cup since Brew in 2000! It almost makes up for last year's narrow loss on Bauer.
Even better was that I got Shocking at $11 (I believe it ended up at 9.80 on the NSW TAB).
I didn't end up hedging with Roman Emperor (thank goodness), but I did blow a bit on exoctics. Having said that, any day you back the Melbourne Cup winner and end up with about 300 more dollars than when you started is a good day indeed!

It's the name of the game Red .... the name of the game!
In horse racing there's almost invariably a sound pointer as to why the horse dun good ... the trouble is finding that tid-bit of information before the bugger wins, which separates the millionaire from the local punter after a few quid!
All the same, there were a few on here who sound like they're happy to cash in on the $11 ...

One of our form experts said include Crime Scene because it has a history of pulling a great second up run out of seemingly nowhere. Everyone thought he was a lunatic

If only I had as much success picking other meets/races as I have with the Cup. Four winners out of the past six years. Total flukes though.

Hope keeps it here. Why bother to go overseas for shithouse money and the chance of failure. Though stud wise if it can win a few over there....?

Not much need for a long distance winner (2M2F) going to stud mate ... not unless the stud goes into the steeplechasing arena to breed 3M + offspring.
Generally find that (certainly hereabouts) they fawn over 5 and 6 F or genuine 1M to 1M 4F specialists.
And Shocking would find it bloody hard to beat some of the European 1M4F horses currently on show on their home turf, after all, he only beat a second string Bin Saroor 40/1 outsider, followed home by 2 16/1 shots!
No disrespect to the horse, but MC Tuesday was Shocking's day...

Re: Horse Racing Thread
Though having said that above, I read in our Daily Torygraph today (excellent for horseracing copy) that Ascot racecourse officials at the MC this year are attempting to woo the owner (Laurence Eales, a loaded Qbilly!) to bring over both WHOBEGOTYOU (for the Queen Anne Stakes) and SHOCKING (Hardwicke Stakes and the King George Cup) for the Royal Ascot meet in July - and it seems that Eales might just agree to that!
Interesting ....
Interesting ....

Re: Horse Racing Thread
I'm not a big punter, but a couple of blokes I know who have the odd bet were talking up a nag in the 4:25 at Warwick Farm today called From London. I only mention it because I just had a look on the TAB and it's paying upwards of 66-1.
It lost.
It lost.
