Yousuf: Aussies best in the world.

He disregards the rankings.
Punter gives tacit approval to this notion and suggests Australia has no weak links.
Marcus North?
The jury's out until next summer. Punter said he's been keeping a close watch on events across the Indian Ocean.

Re: Yousuf: Aussies best in the world.
Ponting denied Marcus North was the weak link in the team despite his career averaging tumbling from almost 51 after the first Test of the summer in Brisbane to less than 37. Against Pakistan he scored just 41 runs in the three Tests at an average of 10.25.
"He's not a weak link at all," Ponting insisted.
"It was only a couple of Tests ago we were saying he was probably our best and most in-form player and coming into this week, I was in the same boat. Things change pretty quickly.
"I don't see a weak link in our side at the moment.
"Hopefully everything turns out the way we want it to for Marcus and he can go to New Zealand and have a good series there and there won't be any speculation about anyone in our line-up."

Hmm, predictable response from a skipper just snotted 3-0.

Try reading as well as cutting and pasting ...Punter speaks about North and why he doesnt think hes a weak link
While everyone else may disagree with Punter he has at least answered the question rather than ignored it as you have implied in your opening post

I was just reading PakPassion to get the Pakster take on the loss and saw a thread on whether Midge or Yuvi was a better test batsman . . . a serious thread with over 50 responses . . . . *snorfle*

Yep, Australia are clearly the best in the world after reasonably convincing triumphs over the the 7th and 8th ranked teams.

But only after checking with Ashocker and referring it to 3rd ump Russell Tiffin, who had his hearing aid turned up.

And unfortunately for Yuvraj, batting team captain Stuart Broad's already used up their two reviews..
Oops, should have seen skully's post. Never mind.

I actually did read it by question mark suggested that I still don't necessarily agree with Punter's defence. Only a couple of test matches ago there was speculation about North, can't recall anyone suggesting he was the batting lynchpin. Even prior to his poor summer his stats against SA and England are a tad misleading. Good scores are sandwiched between a lot of single figure scores which create a sense of unreliability. And as a #6 batsman he doesn't give the impression he can take a game by the scruff of the neck like quintessential #6 batsmen do.
Additionally he's unconvincing as a slip fielder. He's dropped several easy ones (for this level) and not gone for some appearing to have had a misunderstanding with Haddin. Some suspect he is not standing in the correct position. It appears that he's one of Punter's boys partly because he relies on him for advice. And despite Hussey rescuing his career, he still looks vulnerable early, especially to the caught behind. Kamran Akmal may have done the poms a favour.

Everybody's already said that about North ...no one on here is thinking he's safe ...and no one on here thinks that Ponting's words are gospel
