Re: T20 World Cup
So if Afghanistan beats the Bangers and we lose to India, we are eliminated.

I pondered this too. Spin on slower pitches is their strength, so why not bat first and try to take the initiative. Given that they're neophytes, chasing would have presented greater dangers for them and maybe induced panic with multiple wicket losses. As it turned out they tried to pace their innings, albeit they probably left some runs in the shed.

LOL @ the Stoinises, Maxwells, Agars, Warners, Wades et al; all proven failures at actual cricket (Warner for the last 3 years or so) and now just as useless at T-ball.

Re: T20 World Cup
Only an opinion, I know, but I think the players believe that too. Was funny seeing this after a lot of harking back to the WC final.skully wrote:Red wrote:Ignominious performance today after some of the chest beating in the media about our big game mojo.
Aye. The height of arrogance.
That was brilliant by Afghanistan, their batting is basically 2 openers + a few scraps. The bowling otoh for the Caribbean is excellent.
And how far has Gulbadin come. From handing the game to Pakistan in the 2019 WC with his bowling to being the best today.

Re: T20 World Cup
BTW, hearty congrats to the Ghanis on their maiden win over Aus.
I'm sorry I let my disgust at the Aus performance appear that I was detracting from the Afghan performance. Well done them on a magnificent achievement in their cricketing history.
They batted, bowled and fielded better than us on the day and deserved their victory.

Re: T20 World Cup
No doubt at all that the win is good for them, and by them. I'd still much rather we played them, or anybody, in a Test. I don't think T20 does much to develop core cricket skills anywhere - maybe fielding, but that's it.
Haters gonna hate? I've never made any secret of my personal disinterest in T20, nor (more importantly) my worries about what it is doing to the game ... the shorter the game, the less bowling skill in particular comes into it.

Re: T20 World Cup
Afghanistan should have beaten us in the 50 over Gilly but for a Maxwell lone hand
They had us 7/91 ....in case we have forgotten it already
They seemed to have done there homework on where to bowl ...and our batsmen played in brain dead mode which has worked for them in all other games in the tournament

Re: T20 World Cup
Australia will almost certainly qualify for the semis. Bangladesh will beat Afghanistan imho and nett run rate will favour Australia as well if it came to it.
This has been a good and fun tournament, the only bad side was the bad weather draws which messed things up. A reserve day would have solved that. In all likelihood.

Out of interest how old are you Horace? Are you as acidy, arrogant, bitter and abusive to other people as a whole, as you are on this forum? You really need to get out more often; or are you actually just a 70-something, sad old man and keyboard warrior?
Genuine question. Because you come across as a cowardly big mouth.

Re: T20 World Cup
Seems like we were a chance at 2-128 in the 13th, but that's when NoShow was dismissed, and we fell apart.
Looks like we got RoHIT and Arse-deeped. A little bit of revenge for Rohit after the 50 over WC Final loss.
I expect the Ghanis to account for the Bangers (game just started) to grab the last semi spot.

Re: T20 World Cup
Aus's piss weak loss to the Ghanis has cost them in the end.
Ghanis just beat BD by 10 runs defending only 115.
Perform poorly (Aus = 2 losses) and you don't deserve to make the semis. Well done to the Hounds on making a major tournament semi-final.

Re: T20 World Cup
The playing conditions for the two semi-finals, though, are different. The second semi-final, featuring India and England, will not have a reserve day because of a single day's gap between that match and the final.
However, a total of 250 minutes of additional time is available for each semi-final. The first semi-final will have an extra 60 minutes at the end of the day's play and a further 190 minutes on the reserve day, starting from 2pm local time. The second semi-final will have the entire 250 minutes available on the scheduled day since it doesn't have a reserve day.
Additionally, for a game to be constituted as complete in the semi-finals and final, both teams should bat a minimum of 10 overs per innings, as opposed to five overs per innings in the rest of the tournament. This could be significant as rain has been forecast at both venues, and the playing conditions state that in case of a washout, the team that finishes higher in their respective Super Eight groups (India and South Africa, in this case) will proceed. In case the final is abandoned because of poor weather, the two finalists will be declared joint winners.
